I generally love stories that start when the characters are young and fall in love. And that part was nicely done but I think the story suffered because I knew they were going to break up and get back together years later. I was sort of wincing in anticipation throughout the first part. I liked the interlude but ultimately I felt the getting back together was shortchanged. It was too quick and easy. I guess I would have liked the first part to be shorter and the last to be longer instead of vice versa. I did very much enjoy the way he loved her though and the fact that he too had remained celibate while they were apart. ( ) I completely adore Katy Regnery's fairytale series. When book lovers ask my favorite series from this author, I always highly recommend this one. Because it's always wonderfully entertaining how to take a beloved childhood memory and make it for adults. If you are fan of the Little Mermaid, this story will be right up your alley. Laire and Erik meet as young lovers and are pulled apart by circumstance and evil interference. It was amazing how I could remember the parallels to my childhood fairytale. However, here's the unique thing - they needed to be apart. Yes, that goes against everything this hearts and flowers reader hopes for. But in getting to know the characters I felt that they needed to be apart, grow up, get real world expectations before they could really have a chance at grown up HEA. Laire was immature and is very much a product of her upbringing. At times I would get annoyed with her, however, when she left and became her own woman, this is when I began to root for her. If you are a fan of Katy's, this last installment will not disappoint. If you love the Little Mermaid, you'll find the parallels so close. I recommend you are a fan of YA/NA as the first half of the book has that 'feel' of the genre. No matter - as always Katy delivers entertaining HEA just as it should be. 4.25 out of 5.0 stars. ARC Review: Don't Speak (A Modern Fairytale) By Katy Regnery Katy Regnery is a trailblazer. Her abundant creativity has allowed her to find innovative ways of leaving her mark in the genre of romance. Whether it's exploring the paranomal or giving a modern twist to a classic, she makes her presence known. With Don't Speak, she took a well known story of courage and beauty and turned it into a tale of acceptance and discovery. The Little Mermaid has always been one of my favorite fairytales and Ms. Regnery has got me to fall even more in love with it. Laire and Erik's journey to forever may be more complicated and less simplistic than a Disney cartoon but Don't Speak delivers enough powerful emotion to make Hans Christian Andersen proud. A classic is made in the heart and the author made it clear that's what she was aiming to do. WELL DONE! Don't Speak by Katy Regnery Part of the Modern Fairytale Series Release Date: February 27, 2017 4.5 Stars - Once I started reading this book I didn't want to stop! Regnery has a wonderful ability to pull you into a world and make you want never want to leave. She always brings out my emotions and this story was no different. I am trying hard to write this review without giving away any spoilers. So I broke it down best I could: What I Loved: • That Erik and Laire are drawn to each other right away. • Laire’s personal growth - she starts out quite naive but proves to be a strong woman and works hard to have the life she wants. • That the story proves: family isn't always blood related. • The love Erik and Laire have for each other. • There are some funny parts and some great tender moments. • How they meet years later… I was all giddy with excitement at that point in the book! What I liked less: • I found Laire almost too naive in the beginning, but she's from a remote island, and considering her family...ugh.. I get it. • The major plot turning point, sorta had me scoffing.. perhaps I expected something more? • Laire’s family.. the way they think and act is horrible and completely archaic. I just flat-out disliked them. All in all, I quite enjoyed this story and would totally recommend it. It feels more like an actual real-life happy ending, than a super-all-tied-up-perfect unbelievable one. It's a good addition to the series and I think the author made the story fit “The Little Mermaid” tale well. I also want to add.. I loved the cover!! It's beautiful! *I was given an ARC in exchange for an honest review* ~Paragraphs and Petticoats~ Original review posted at: http://paragraphsandpetticoats.blogspot.ca/ aucune critique | ajouter une critique
