When Ford Piracini moves to Oakedge for an internship, he hopes to find the mate of his dreams in the big city. It's long past time for the boy-crazy shifter to find his first relationship. Although he still has one foot in the closet, he's ready to take that last step out - and the Fated Date Agency is the first and only place he intends to look. There's no point in wasting time on something that's not going to last. Jarvis Ashbaugh has his eyes on the new intern from the time Ford shows up. Gay shifters like the two of them are rare - and Ford is just Jarvis's type. The unconventional young engineer isn't looking for love. He's a free spirit, not the relationship kind, so he never plans to fall for Ford. All Jarvis wants is to have a little fun while Ford waits for his mate. But something more might be at work between these two shifters - something that's greater than fate... Ford is a shifter in a new town doing an internship while he gets ready to take his engineering exam. He keeps to himself most of the time, but he is craving someone to be in a relationship with. He is not the one-night-stand kind of guy. He is so obsessed with finding someone that he writes to the Fated Date Agency to try to find his mate.
Jarvis works at the firm Ford is doing his internship. He notices Ford from across the room and immediately wants to get to know him. Jarvis is a bit of a free spirit, and while he is not really a player, he comes across that way at times. He wants to be with Ford, but has trouble competing with the idea of Ford's mate (not because he has an issue, but because Ford is so focused on his mate).
The relationship between the two is rocky. Ford has trouble relating to Jarvis and his openness and assumes the worst of everything. I tended to get annoyed at times with Ford because he was very judgmental without really listening to Jarvis. On the other hand, Jarvis was so clueless at times and couldn't understand Ford's perspective that I wanted to smack him upside the head.
When they finally got through the miscommunication, though, I was glad to see these guys realize what they want and how they can get it. It really felt like these two were their own worst enemy. I'm glad they were able to work through it. I would definitely be interested in reading more in this series.
