F/SF Fun addition to "...in Spite of Himself" and the start of a lengthy series with several spawns. "Start" because while The Warlock in Spite of Himself was first, and A Wizard in Bedlam technically second, this kicked off the broader arcs. I read it long ago, but it came back as I went through it again. Nice memories. Of the four books in the Warlock series to date (I'm reading them in order), this one was my favorite. Basic story is that Rod and family drop into a parallel universe where Rod learns how to tap into "magic" and becomes a true Warlock. We had several good fights, some good tension, a nice Swiss Family magicians kind of feel, and some good old righteous anger (My favorite). The banter was a little lacking this time - pretty much replaced with philosophizing... But that was OK. We had a couple of nice little dips into social commentary including a rant against extra marital sex, some explorations of parallel universes, and some discussions about the separation of Church and State. There was a nod to Murphy's Law and a recurring theme of "modern electronics suck and it's strange how they fix themselves sometimes". Read 6/2007 aucune critique | ajouter une critique
