This was a thriller/murder mystery in Cocoa Beach, FL told from various POVs. It bounced around a little timeline-wise, but each chapter was labeled with month and year so there was no guessing about when things were going on. It was a super fast, fun read and I liked all of the unexpected plot twists down to the very end. ( )

I love the setup of this book the chapter titles are dates. The book switches back and forth between past and present and the dates help keep you from getting confused. Mary is a journalist with a young son. She has been fired from her job. When she learns her brother has been arrested for murder she returns to Cocoa Beach Florida to try to solve this crime. The tensions run high in this book. In the beginning she stays with her father and her step-mother. There is definitely no love lost between Mary and her step-mother. Then there is her ex-husband and all of her old friends. Together they set out to try to prove her brother’s innocence. One thing is for sure, Willow Rose does an excellent job of creating a variety of well fleshed out characters. Each of them have their own quirks, some of them very annoying. Be sure this book will keep you on the edge of your seat reading until the end. ( )

I loved this book and can't wait to read more about Mary and the 7th st gang. Mary Mills is a reporter for the New York Times just as she gets fired and is wondering how she is going to find a new job and support herself and her young son Salter she finds out her bother has been arrested for murder. She returns to Cocoa Beach to help him. She reunites with her estranged husband, and her old high school friends as of course mystery and murder surround them. The story moves along swapping back and forth between 2015, 1995 and 1992, but never gets confusing because it all pulls together in the end. I love that Willow gives links to some of the articles she used in her research at the end of the book, very interesting. Willow Rose has become my new favorite author, I have to read everything she has written, they are all quite addicting and a great read on my day off. I just love her stories and characters. ( )

When Blake Mills is arrested for murder, his sister, Mary, comes home to rescue him and prove his innocence.. She has been gone for 20 years, and doesn't want the memories that come with returning.
Helping her with her investigation are all her old high school friends. We get the dynamics of her friendships, relationship with her estranged husband, and her issues with her dad and stepmom.

This is written like a young adult or teen novel. The story is good, the characters are mostly likable, and the end awesome. There are so many twist and interweaving of the past and present.

I am going right into the second book in the series. ( )

What Hurts the Most (7th Street Crew Book 1) by Willow Rose in a mystery with lots of twists & turns. I gave it five stars.

“After five years of working there, you simply stop being baffled. However, I am actually baffled at this moment. But not because of the view. Because of what is being said. ‘So, you’re firing me, is that it?’ I asked, while my blood is boiling in my veins. What the hell is this? ‘Letting you go, yes.’

“I look at my dad. It is scary how much we look alike. I see it every time I look in the mirror. Every day, I am reminded of where I have come from, even though I try so hard to forget.”

“I think long & hard for a comeback, but unfortunately I have never been fast at those things. I can always come up with something a few days later, something real clever & witty, but never in the moment. I often wonder if people will think it weird if I call them a few weeks later & give them the line.”

I purchased this on sale & was glad to start with Book 1. I look forward to reading the next two books of the series, You Can Run & You Can’t Hide. ( )
