This is a tale of a mother's love for her son. The pirate "Granny" O'Malley meets the Queen of England, affectionately called "Liz" and demands that she should be put in the dungeons instead of her son. The queen is impressed with Granny's courage to save her advisor, which happens coincidentally, and her sense of self so she sets them both free. Children will be entertained by this story as it has an exciting plot. The historical fiction aspects enable it to be paired with a lesson regarding that time period which was the 1500s. ( )

Pirates used to be frowned upon and severely punished, especially in the Elizabethan period. Personally, I'm really into the Tudor dynasty, that's why I picked up this book. Elizabeth was a wonderful queen who loved her people. She did not want her people hurt or upset. Pirates always invaded and started drama with people, therefore, they always got a bad rap. However, this pirate was not bad and just wanted her son back from Queen Elizabeth, who imprisoned her son for being a pirate. Elizabeth and the pirate ended up talking and becoming friends, and Elizabeth let her son go. Realistically, this did not happen, but it would be a wonderful story to tell students when they're learning about England. ( )

This is a book about a pirate who raids ships to treasure. She turns out to be a woman so some people dont take her seriously. Eventually she has a son who becomes a pirate of his own ship but is captured. The mother has to visit the queen to try to save her son. The queen agrees to let them both go if they dont attack her ships anymore. The pirate tries to stay true but ends up attacking some of the queens ships anyway.

this is a book about a strong woman who was not happy with her subordinate life. so she took her first husbands ship and became a pirate captain. because of her ppirating ways, the queen of england takes her captive but they understand each other because they are both strong women. this can be used in a lesson about pirates, the queen of england, females in power and mony other things. this book is definately for older ages though because of the amount of wors it uses, and its subject. 'Tis very odd, you know, the things they say about you after you've been dead awhile. I've heard the tales they tell. Some call me a pirate. Others call me a hero. Truth is, I was neither a pirate nor a hero. Just a red-haired Irish woman who did things because she wanted to or had to. No more, no less.
