In the year 2055, scientists discover something far worse than rising temperatures and rising seas-they discover massive sunspots that are producing unprecedented solar flares. With little time to prepare for the storms, NASA recruits doctors Sophie Winston and Emanuel Rodriguez to help monitor the solar weather. At first, the duo believes they have been hired for a routine project. But when arriving at the Johnson Space Center they quickly realize they haven't been told everything about their mission. And as a massive storm races toward Earth, they begin to suspect that it isn't a natural event. Millions of miles away something is feeding the storms ...|1.2.3.4.5.… (plus d'informations)

Solar Storm tells the the beginning of the end. A group of scientists, set to travel to Mars to save the inhabitants of earth, are called together to study sunspots- then IT happens! The world as everyone knew it vanished!

Solar Storms is short and sweet, but shares a great deal. The story introduces you to the apocalyptic world of earth and the things that have come to take over. Why are they here? What do they want and will they annihilate all of humanity?

This is a prequel but not necessary- but good to know ahead of time.

ABR's full Solar Storms (Orbs Book 0.25) audiobook review and many others can be found at Audiobook Reviewer.

Solar Storms (Orbs Book 0.25) is essentially Chapter 6 of Orbs book 1. If you have read or purchased Orbs, there is no reason to listen to Solar Storms. If you want a quick intro or are unsure of listening to Orbs, you can listen to this short story. It describes the events leading up to the Orbs trilogy, the intense solar storms that fry a portion of the planet. Earth is being attacked, but no one knows it yet.

By itself, Solar Storms does not hold up as a short story. Characters are not well developed, there is an open ended plot, and conflicts are not resolved. If you are unaware that this is part of a book, you would wonder what you are reading and why. If you are listening to it as a prequel to Orbs, that is fine, but why not simply listen to Orbs? It is hard to give it a bad review because it is part of a generally good book, but on its own it simply doesn’t hold up well.

Move on to Orbs and simply skip this redundant intro.

Elizabeth Evans does an excellent job narrating as she does in Orbs. She has a good clear voice and excellent character differentiation and is easy to listen to. Her accents are strange but only mildly distracting.

This was recommended to read as the prequel to Orbs. So I did. Its a short story....a good introduction to some characters I look forward to meeting in Orbs. I feel though that there could have been more of a set up. I needed a little more background. But hopefully some will be answered in the next book.

The idea of solar flares affecting the earth is intriguing. Ok, let me rephrase that. Solar flares have already affected things down here and its a true concern we of this planet should have!!why just last week there was increased solar flare activity and it affected communication in parts of the planet. I got an ARC of this short prequel to ORBS. It's a quick read (I think around 25 pages) and is the back story to ORBS (though, the title should give that away!). I enjoyed it because it introduced me to the characters I meet in ORBS. And I love that there's a smart, badass heroine going to be in ORBS! ( )
