Michelangelo grew up in a merchant family. He went to school and was well educated. His father wanted him to become a monk but Michelangelo put a end to that quickly. His most famous piece is probably David, a statue in the Acedimia Gallery in Florence. Michelangelo has made many pieces of art including sculptures, paintings, and some drawings. Michelangelo lived in Florence for most of his life but sometimes he would travel to Rome and stay there for a while to work for the Pope. Michelangelo often worked for the Pope and members of or the Medici family themselves.
I rated this book 3.5 stars because it was good and I enjoyed it but it wasn't the best book ever. I gave this book the extra 0.5 stars because I learned new information from the book. I also read this book because we are going to Florence soon. I don't think I would have given it 4 or 5 stars because it was good but not great. I wanted to learn more about Michelangelo's family and not just his work. All in all, this was a fairly good book. I would recommend this book if you are traveling to Florence or want to learn about Michelangelo. ( )

"Michelangelo: The Young Artist Who Dreamed of Perfection" by Philip Wilkinson is a biography about the life of artist Michelangelo. It talks about his early life, how he became the influence that he is, and some of his most famous works. I liked this book overall because I feel that it gives good facts but does so in an age-appropriate way. The authors manage to keep the information interesting. I would use this book in a 4th or 5th grade class to have students research either influential artists or influential people of the Renaissance. I would also give it to students to read who are interested in art. It is a good biography because it gives an accurate portrayal of Michelangelo's life, using sources. There are also many pictures of his work with captions next to them, as well as a running timeline at the bottom. Media: pictures. ( )
