Madelyn is trying to make a name for herself by moving above the travel articles she usually writes and trying to write a story exposing a small town police chief. She unfortunately finds herself liking Chief Zach Davis and doing her best to not let on her true purpose as things keep happening to her. It seems that someone does not want her to write the article. This book kept me thinking and it did not turn out the way I thought. I was sure I knew who what behind everything and why, but nope and that is why I really enjoy reading books by this author. I received a copy of this book to read and review from the author. Title: Dark Harbor Author: Christy Barritt Pages: 224 Year: 2016 Publisher: Love Inspired Suspense My rating is 5 stars. Readers will most certainly enjoy a story where love wins and good triumphs over evil! Zack is the lead male character who is Chief of Police for a small town off the East coast of the United States. Originally Zack was a detective in Baltimore who worked to try to bring down a drug ring along with attempting to be a mentor to a young man on the streets. Madelyn is the lead female character in the story that lost her parents in a car crash and has been trying to make it on her own since then. Madelyn has no siblings and is adrift in her relationship to God. When she goes to the small town to do a story on the Chief of Police under false pretenses, her life becomes targeted no matter where she is located! In time, readers get to discover who is behind the illegal drug ring and the multiple attempts on Madelyn’s life. Plus we get to enjoy the blossoming relationship between Zack and Madelyn. Above all, we can enjoy seeing if, when or how Madelyn’s relationship with God morphs. I really enjoyed the story and though some readers may have guessed who was behind all the attempts on Madelyn along with running drugs, I was surprised. The ending was breathtaking and the epilogue was like icing on a cake! Dark Harbor by Christy Barritt is a fast paced romantic suspense that you won’t want to put down once you pick it up. Madelyn Sawyer doesn’t even make it to the outskirts of town before someone is trying to stop her. She is a reporter working undercover trying to find evidence that Sheriff Zach Davis is a murderer and involved in a drug-trafficking ring. Zach doesn’t want to get to close to Madelyn so she won’t discover that he is doing undercover work himself. The more trouble Madelyn gets into the more Zach saves her and even starts having strange things happen to him. So, is Zach a bad guy or not, the closer she gets to him the more doubts she has. The characters and story line are well developed and believable. I would recommend this book to anyone that likes a clean romantic suspense.
