This was a typical BBC quality production and mostly managed to keep the audience up with who was who, though I did get confused at times and that was watching the episodes close to one another. I've never read the book and doubt I will. But it didn't involve me emotionally. The women in particular were almost all downright stupid, of the want to slap them department. I know that women were powerless at this time and that marriage was the only aim but did they really all behave so stupidly? Interesting but flawed. ( )
