What a great book with a happy outcome for one of the many endangered animals in the world. This is the second book in the Rescue Series by Sandra Markle that I have read.

The Amur Leopard is becoming endangered due to shrinking habitat, the splitting up of their habitat as well as hunting them for trophies. In 2007, only 30 of these leopards were left in the wild. Zoos began a special controlled breeding program for the Amur leopards to help build up the population. They had to move them to other zoos to avoid inbreeding problems. In 1990 group of scientists studied them in the wild using implanted transmitters. A Protected park for the leopards was established in Russia in 2007. Zoos worked with the scientists to come up with a plan to breed and release amur leopards into the wild. This is a feel good book for anybody interested in how to help endangered species to live and thrive.

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. ( )

This book was very well laid out. It not only speaks of how important savings these types of leopards are, it goes through and has you look at what type of environment they live in, how cubs survive, how they hunt for food, and groups who help patrol the number of species left. Another thing I really liked is how each picture gives a fact about the animal and why that fact is important. I would use this book as a way to introduce an endangered species topic. ( )

This book is an informational picture book that talks about saving leopards, and has little facts about them as well. ( )

Stunning photography helps to introduce the reader to these amazing creatures. The science behind why they face extinction is told clearly at an appropriate level for the target audience. Because the recovery of the amur leopard is an on-going process, the ending is not neat and tidy, but it does offer hope for bringing the species back from the brink.

Thank you, NetGalley, for the ARC. ( )
