Summary: This book is very interesting. It combines both kid friendly language with facts about various animals diets. On each page, a recipe is included. This book is well illustrated and has lots of engaging features for students.
Thoughts: Although it was well illustrated, I felt like the book was a little busy. There were lots of things on each page and it seemed like a lot to read for younger students. I was also not a big fan of the real life images mixed with cartoon images.
Use/Strategy:
- Teach about diet and fun animal facts
- Teach text features
- Teach about compost, food scarcity, and animals affect on our environment ( )

This book provides a recipe for most commonly found animals in the zoo. It also provides insight to the environmental change animals go through when moving from their natural habitat to the zoo.

An awesome book for anyone who's wanted to go behind the scenes at a zoo! This book has tons of information about what various animals eat, including fun facts and -- yes -- even recipes. I don't think I'll be trying snail trail mix anytime soon (although I do wish I'd had a book like this back when I kept snails as pets), but this was a fun, educational read. ( )

This informational book could interest students that wouldn't normally be drawn to informational texts because of the recipes included for feeding a diverse group of animals. The book also contains a glossary and index which could align to the literature standard of using informational text features to find information. This book could align with NGSS practice #1: Asking questions and defining problems. This book could stimulate questions such as "Why does the sugar glider possum need extra protein in their food? What would happen if it did not get the extra protein?" ( )
