The Chronicles of Pern is made up of five short stories set during the early years of the Pern colony. The first story is actually before the planet is colonised, and is about the survey team that cleared the planet for habitation. The next three stories take place as the colonists are abandoning the southern continent in favour of the rockier northern continent, and the first twenty years of Threadfall. The last story is set after Threadfall ends, and the Federation finally receives the SOS sent by a lone colonist without the colony's permission.
Not a bad set of stories, but nothing to write home about.
