When Ellison Russell is nearly killed at a benefactors' party, she brushes the incident aside as an unhappy accident. But when her house is fire-bombed, she's shot at, and the person sitting next to her at a gala is poisoned, she must face facts. Someone wants her dead. But why? And can Ellison find the killer before he strikes again? Add in an estranged sister, a visiting aunt with a shocking secret, and a handsome detective staying in her guesthouse, and Ellison might need more than cream in her coffee.… (plus d'informations)

Poor Ellison, I am sure she would love to just take some time off and relax. Alas, this isn’t the book to do it. Her mother is usual over bearing self, both her Aunt and her Sister are visiting, each with secrets and baggage of their own, and oh yeah, it would seem someone is trying to kill her.

Once again the author has written a brilliant world for the reader to escape into. The early seventies is a fantastic backdrop for Ellison’s story and her characters are expertly crafted. The compare and contrast between Mother and Aunt Sis with Ellison and Marjorie is a great touch.

As with the previous books Ellison’s sarcasm, lost on most of the more oblivious people in her life, drive the story with its humorous touch. There is plenty of suspense and the occasional red herring. This my favorite book of the series. As with all the books it read great as a stand alone, and even better a part of the wonderful series. A well-plotted mystery. Lots of high-fashion name dropping. ( )

This is the third book in the Country Club series. Setting is 1974 Kansas City. Not sure why the 70's date. It is fun to see them using wall phones and not cells. It would help to read this series in order. I downloaded this one for free. The title intrigued me and the setting being KC; however, I was disappointed in it. The language wasn't bad, but....it isn't a series that I want to continue reading.
Ellie is a widow, has a daughter and is an artist. Evidently in the first book, her woman chasing husband dies and Ellie was accused for awhile. As for this book, Ellie's mom is hosting this huge gala and wants everything to go perfectly. Enter her other daughter without husband and the Mom's estranged sister. Then accidents begin to happen and it looks like Ellis is the target. ( )

Another terrific installment of this series! I thought this might be the one where Ellison and Anarchy......well..... I won't spoil it for you. Can't wait for the next one! PS-- this is the PERFECT book for the beach, I know because I just finished it in scenic St. Thomas!! ☀️ ( )

This is the third installment in the Country Club Murder series set in 1974 Kansas City, Missouri.

The protagonist, Ellison Russell, widowed and “on the cusp of 40”, is smart and funny; and the electricity between her and Homicide Detective Anarchy Jones could run the lights in my house for a year. ( )
