Lady Ameila would much rather be in breeches and riding in the American West rather than being in uncomfortable shoes and corset (she really should get herself fitted for a proper corset! They shouldn't hurt if they're properly fitted! Sigh!) and where she keeps accidentally, and occasionally on purpose, breaking the rules. She wants to enjoy herself and when she wakes up in an unfamiliar bed after getting dosed with opium to "calm her down" she decides to seize the day. With Alistair Finlay-Jones she enjoys herself, not realising that he's under orders to marry her. He feels obliged to, but also very attracted to her and wants her in his life. But when she realises the truth will she be able to forgive him for hiding it.

It's an interesting story with many layers and you can see how misunderstanding and complications could cause issues, I enjoyed it. ( )

ARC Review: Chasing Lady Amelia (Keeping Up With The Cavendishes) by Maya Rodale

Mischievous and curious Lady Amelia leads this enchanting tale. When Ms. Rodale gets it right, she is a force to be reckoned with. The ambiance of high society makes for an austere backdrop to a witty and often melodramatic love affair. Amelia was a barrel of laughs. She longs to spread her wings and soar but despite her yearning finds it hard to break free of the obligations bestowed upon her. She finds trouble at the drop of a hat.
Alistair is trouble with a capital "T". Their acquaintance brings about some sticky situations but allows each a chance to let down their guard and become the best of themselves. Chasing Lady Amelia is a tender story that blends passion and maturity to create a ravishing read. There is never a dull moment.

Well, this was the most disappointing Maya Rodale novel that I've ever read. This second book in the Cavendish family series was tedious and lacked the characteristic wit and charm that I've come to associate with Rodale's usually well-written historical romances.

Lady Amelia Cavendish, the heroine of "Chasing Lady Amelia," was first introduced in "Lady Bridget's Diary," #1 in this series. In that book, Amelia had disappeared for a day before returning to her family, not sharing a single detail of where she'd been or what she'd done during her time of disappearance. Knowing that "Chasing Lady Amelia" was going to fill in this gap, I was eager to hear Amelia's story. How disappointing, then, to read about Amelia's day and realize that it was just going to go on and on. I don't want to include any spoilers, so I will just say that I was bored with the entire storyline, and the chemistry between Amelia and the hero was lacking.

I hope that #3 in this series, "Lady Claire Is All That," will be much better. I'm still willing to give Rodale's books a chance because I've ready many of her books and always been entertained and charmed. I'm going to call "Chasing Lady Amelia" an anomaly, and hope for the best for Rodale's future books. ( )

Lady Amelia Cavendish is bored! She is sick of London and she wanted to go home to America, where there was no members of the Ton; who were polite to ones face and made fun of them behind their back. But because of her brother's new title of Duke kept them in England for good. But after one particular disastrous ball, when Amelia cause a great scandal by taking of her slippers. But when her family decided to give her some laudanum; little did they know that it would inspire a drugged Amelia a midnight stroll through Mayfair; only to be rescued by an unsuspecting newly returned gentleman…Alistair Finlay-Jones.

When Alistair Finlay-Jones was summoned home from his 6 years of freedom (and self imposed exile) by Baron Wrotham; his Uncle, former guardian and the man that holds him responsible for his son's death. Now as his heir, Alistair was told to marry one of those "American" to fill the coffers of the family. With the guilt still laying heavy on his heart Alistair didn't protest. But what he didn't realize till he returned home, was that the Lady he rescued the night before, is one of his "choices" of bride his uncle demand he marry.

When Amelia awoke in a strange bed, she was worried and maybe a little scared, but that soon changed into one of the best day that she had ever had in London! And all in the company of Alistair. It was unsurprising maybe, that loved bloomed between them, despite their secrets they kept from each other. But when the day was over and the real world came back and guilt and responsibility laid heavy on Alistair's shoulders. But when the truth comes out about Wrotham's decree and the threat of scandal looms, will Amelia and Alistair be able to find their love again?

I absolutely loved the plot and the writing in this book! I don't think I have ever read a story like this; it was fresh and addictive and oh my goodness! It was simply divine! When I say that I related to the characters, it might honestly be an understatement! I would love to be able to say that if I was ever a character in a romance novel, I would be Lady Amelia! Bringing disaster and mayhem in my wake! Lady Amelia's character truly made the whole book for me! My heart truly bled for Alistair, how horrible for he to be raised by a man like Wrotham. I think I loved every member of the Cavendish family, but I have to say that The Duchess is my favorite.

Chasing Lady Amelia is a magnificent book, which is why I give it 5 stars!

Having met and adored Amelia in Maya Rodale’s sublime LADY BRIDGET’S DIARY, I couldn’t wait to discover all of the luscious details of what exactly happened during the brief time that she had run away. And, though not as page-turningly perfect as I found Bridget’s story to be, Amelia’s whirlwind adventure is a fun and frisky tale filled with charm, sunny thrills, and moments of toe-curling passion.

This second novel in the series delivers a pleasing Regency London spin on the 1953 classic, ROMAN HOLIDAY, reimagining various famous scenes from the film—making the familiar fresh and decidedly sexier than the original—to my great delight! But, as much as I loved that movie—Gregory Peck and Audrey Hepburn are unforgettable—I found that this novel truly began to sparkle when it fully diverged from the film's plot and led the couple and the reader into the unpredictable and deliciously angsty waters of morning-after heartbreak, scandal, and betrayal. Such yummy stuff! Of course, after some very heated conversations, a few stolen kisses, and a whole lot of forgiveness, Amelia and Alistair get the blissful happily ever after that I craved, and they rightfully deserved. :)

Cheerfully written, playful, and nicely sensual, this romantic romp makes a great afternoon escape!
