I am loving this series. One thing the transistions between chapters seems choppy, but otherwise the story is lovely and the characters I want to know more about! ( )

This is a book I would have loved as a teenager. Young College kid, finds a group of people who needs her to do something dangerous, while discovering who she is, all at the same time.

but

as an adult, it was fairly simplistic, following any number of standard plots about young woman turns into saviour of an unrelated group of people. This isn't a bad plot, just very over done. However, the author managed to go around some of the obvious tropes. Main character Natalie, was chosen because she was fit, seemed trustworthy, and really needed the money. Not because of any special sign or omen. She also reacted correctly when she realized what was being asked of her. So, the book stayed away from obvious tropes....

but by the end, the lead character was very quickly turning into "Young Woman is only saviour for prosecuted group" trope. I was very disappointed, even though all signs were pointing that way.

The book itself is an easy read. It was well written, and an easy read. The biggest problem is it was so predictable. ( )

Thoroughly enjoyed this foray into fantasy. I'm a huge fan of gateway fantasies like Narnia and Alice In Wonderland and while Fourline isn't filled with magical creatures, the adventure Natalie Barnes finds there is nothing short of magical. ( )
