Really interesting historical fantasy adventure set in the Chesapeake Bay and featuring a cameo appearance by Chessie herself! I loved the colors Towle employed for the art, and the oversized format makes the frames a bit more readable than in some graphic novels. (Although the oversized format also makes it a little harder to comfortably read this one in bed, too.)

Definitely a fun read.

A fun, quick tale set sometime/somewhere after the Civil War about superstition. The author has a clear passion for the period in which its set; otherwise, I probably wouldn't have cared about sailors and oysters. The delightfully cartoonish artwork and solid colors evoke the older styles of comic strips. (

Really fun historical fiction. Some great diverse historical nods, good character development, and a healthy dose of nautical mystical. Great colors. (

Well, here is a book that manages to succeed despite its odd title and concept. Towle creates a fun adventure with an engaging group of oddballs in an unlikely setting. I'd like to see a follow-up. (
