I'm on a mission to read as many of these new cozy Mysteries that are appearing now as I possibly can. 4 books that you can read in an hour or so most of them are pretty forgettable. This one is not really an exception, however, a detective that used to be an actress is an interesting concept. Still, she had the requisite attractive cop to work with, who paid lip service to not wanting a civilian involved but still managed to work with the detective. Personally I think romance in a cozy mystery is misguided, but then I grew up on Agatha Christie and Dorothy Sayers and Njaio Marsh. You can't expect these dime a dozen . Mysteries to live up to them. ( )

This is a good book--very clean! No sex, if that's what you're concerned about. It has a steady pace. A little humor in places and a good dose of mystery. Despite the good things I have to say about it, I'm not really feeling the "pull" to keep this book in my personal library. ( )

Kit played a cop on TV until she's blacklisted after a series of bad choices. She decides to buy a fixer upper in her hometown and return to college. When she begins refurbishing the hard wood floors, she finds a skeleton hidden underneath the floorboards.

I liked that the cops (at least not all of them) are not portrayed as being incompetent. Kit seems to respect the detective assigned to the case and what she finds out seems to kind of fall into her lap because people are willing to talk to her. She also shares the information she learns with the detective.

I also liked that Kit realized the differences between real life and having scriptwriters chart each dialogue line and movement. ( )
