I think I read this before and thought I hadn't finished it, because I didn't remember how the plot went. Heh. ( )

I really enjoyed this. Jaime Hernandez punky dropout milieu, Black Hole's teen creepiness, and perhaps a tiny bit of Hate's slacker-band dynamics. Not perfect, but very good at what it does. ( )

I was very intrigued by this - a coming of age story, but set in a town where all the adults have disappeared. Kind of like Netflix's show "The Society," which I liked a lot more than I had expected.

But I was disappointed. Nothing is clear: how long have the adults been gone? Is society crumbling or are they making it work? Why are so many people murderers? What's up with that weird holy flood and cult compound reveal at the end (and why oh WHY wasn't there any text to that newspaper article)? Why does Ben randomly bleed? There's so much thrown into here that it all becomes a mess: the "psychics," the time jumps, the monsters which may or may not exist,

The art is also distracting; there are weird freckles/dots/hair/piercings on some characters (and the fact that I can't tell what it's supposed to represent is very distracting), and they all end up looking the same. I thought the girl with the shaved head who showed up at Otto's place (who looks "ready," but ready for what??) was Ben, but then we see Ben later with all her hair intact.

Ben ad Otto's relationship is very true to life: awkward and close and weird and very relatable. And I LOVED that Ben and Otto rented Pontypool, one of my all-time favorite horror movies. ( )
