Lady Eleanor Petersham knows exactly what she wants from her marriage - a man who will worship at her feet. Instead, her father marries her off to her brother's best friend, the devastatingly handsome, authoritative, and devilishly dominant Lord Edwin Hyde. It doesn't matter that he makes her entire body tingle when he kisses her, or brings her to heights of pleasure she's never known, or how he disciplines her when she plays nasty tricks on him - like throwing a dinner party which only includes dishes with ingredients he despises - she's not willing to give up on her version of marriage without a fight. Pain and pleasure struggle for dominance the same way husband and wife do in this relationship. Birching His Bride is approximately 52,000 words and is an introduction to Edwin and Eleanor's story, their world, and their friends and family. Their story continues in the rest of the quartet... Eleanor and Edwin have grown up together. Eleanor wants a husband who adores her and will let her get away with anything. Her father has other ideas so asks Edwin to marry her. Edwin agrees and the next day they are married. Eleanor is not happy about that and decides to give Edwin enough trouble that he will be glad to be rid of her. Edwin, however, knowing that Eleanor's father disciplined her for behavior does the same. Eleanor is not happy but she is aroused. She keeps pushing. Edwin keeps disciplining. They go on their honeymoon where Edwin shows Eleanor the pleasure that can come from pain. Will she admit she likes it? What happens to her plans now?

I enjoyed this story. I liked Eleanor though she is headstrong. She does learn but it takes a lot of discipline. I loved her first dinner party. I like Edwin also. He has had feelings for Eleanor for some time but never thought that anythin would come of them. When put together they explode. Neither will give an inch but Edwin knows how to excite Eleanor. Eleanor is eager to learn. They do need to communicate better outside the bedroom, but it will come. I hope!

I look forward to their continuing story as well as others in this series. ( )

Historical Erotica

I enjoyed this very much. But, I would have liked it more if there was more to the story. It needs something, be it Humor or Suspense etc. As it is, I wouldn't say it's one dimensional, but it definitely needs MORE to keep you involved with the characters.

I like Elenore and Edwin, but neither character comes off as truly mature.

Neither communicate well with each other & in Elenore's case, she doesn't seem to communicate with anyone really. She just makes assumptions and goes head long into acting on those assumptions.

That quality about her was sometimes grin worthy and more often 'Grimace' worthy.

The intimate scenes between these two are Steaming Hot! And very Erotic.
Continuing to the next in the series.

Note: This ends in a way that leads into the next book. One of the worries Elenore has, which really becomes annoying by the 3rd book, continues throughout this series.
Also, this series would have been better if each book had a definitive HEA for each set of mc's in each book. Instead, the mc's for each book crossover with the others. While I like that the characters crossover into all the books, I don't like hearing Elenore's repetitive thoughts about her One Particular worry over Edwin.

Birching His Bride is a short novel introducing characters who feature in three subsequent (longer) novels making up Golden Angel's Domestic Discipline series. This book introduces the major players and then focuses on the marriage of Eleanor and Edwin, and their story continues throughout the series - this is not a collection of four standalone romances each dealing with a different couple. Of course, this reader would have known that had they paid more attention to the blurb.

Eleanor and Edwin's story is delightfully told. I'm no expert on the period represented but I feel Golden Angel perfectly captures the feel of other books I've read and period dramas I have seen. Eleanor is delightfully self-centered and naïve when we meet her and this book is largely concerned with her adjusting her outlook on life and dreams for her future and exploring her sexuality. Honestly, it is more of the latter and the author is in her element here giving us an abundance of steamy scenes between the couple.

The end of this book sits uneasily between happy-for-now and cliff-hanger - I wouldn't suggest picking it up if you plan on reading just this volume, but I predict that if you do you'll be sufficiently in love with the characters that you'll want to go straight on to the next book anyway. ( )

Really good

Oh my gods, this is super steamy and great to read. I loved every word of it. I love the sprinkling of period appropriate language. It's enough to season but not to overwhelm the rest of the story. Too many times, authors put as much of that kind of language as they can in a story, and it is always jarring to me and takes me out of the story. That isn't the case here.

The story is as good as the sex is, which is always nice. Eleanor and Edwin are engrossing characters. I want to know so much more about them. I can't wait until I read the rest of the story. ( )
