After her long-time boyfriend breaks up with her, Sloane Chatfield's well-meaning friends are so determined to put her back in the saddle that they're borderline obnoxious. When Sloane insists she's waiting for Jamie Fraser to come along, her friends surprise her with a trip to Scotland... to find her a new boyfriend. In order not to have her vacation ruined, Sloane is determined to pre-empt them. All she has to do is find the most remote part of the Highlands, get there first, find a Scot who will pretend to be her boyfriend, then break-up before they arrive. She figures no friend will try and match her up while she's nursing a second broken heart. Galen Buchanan has his hands full trying to keep the family pub afloat in a remote Highland village. Everything is falling apart, he's running out of money, and now there's a buttoned-up American princess that has, for some reason, landed on his doorstep.... and takes his best table and hogs his Wi-Fi all day. She may be cute, but she's also full of free advice and doesn't like the way they do things in the Highlands. Then she proposes something completely outrageous-that he be her pretend boyfriend...and offers him enough money to save the pub. It's only for a few days, he figures. What's the worst that could happen?… (plus d'informations)

Let me help you, help me. Sounds confusing but that's the premise of Jessa McAdams romance. The extremes that Sloane went to kept me in stitches. The Perfect Bargain is a cute story that is funny, sexy and irreplacable. Loved it. ( )

I was super duper excited for this book when I started it and discovered that it is a modern romance where our heroine will be journeying to Scotland to find her own Jamie Fraser. I have plans to do this myself next year! (At least I tell my mother I will be importing a husband so she will get off my back for a little while. And I cannot WAIT to go to Scotland and Ireland!) Anyway, back on topic. So I was super excited about this book, thought it would be a funny little How To guide for when I travel. I enjoyed the premise of the book, as Outlander fans might. I loved the fact that Sloane had to battle coos and goats and a myriad of other animals walking around the town. I liked the charm of the remote Highland village, and the people and yes, even the Scottish brogue. I actually liked Galen's character better when he was being a bit gruff because it seemed more authentic than his bouts of poetic speech. I certainly won't mind peeking in some pubs in Scotland to see if I can find myself a Jamie/Galen/Ruari. So I liked all the charm and cutesy factor.

I also felt bad for what Sloane went through in "The Breakup" - hearing those things from a fiance would definitely put a crimp in any girl's self-esteem. I can see why she would be cautious and throwing herself into her work. And I related to her a little bit because I have been through a broken engagement and all the stress, drama and heartache that entails. But other than that, I was missing a connection with her character - I think it was her prim/uptight personality (and the spoiled rich girl part). I did not like Sloane's friends at all. They seemed to steamroll over her and everyone else.

I was really rooting for Sloane to find that perfect Jamie Fraser - and Galen certainly sounded like he looked the part (even if only wallys wear kilts). The relationship seemed a bit superficial, but that may be a consequence of the book length. I would have preferred to see more emotion in the relationship, more steamy moments, and more interaction outside of the "deal" the pair struck. That being said, I will definitely continue reading the series as it has a lot of potential. I hope more of the series is released before my trip next year.

I received an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. 3.5 stars / 2 flames. ( )

The Perfect Bargain is a fun and quick read. You easily get swept up into the highlands of Scotland.

I wasn't a fan of Sloane at first. She pretty much runs to hide out instead of telling her friends that their dating matches for her suck. She is a little prim & proper, but uses it as a mask to hide under. But when she finally starts loosening up and doing things for herself she becomes a great character. She's funny, and has no problem dishing out the sarcasm. Her plan to show her friends she has moved on from her horrendous break-up is slightly hilarious.

Galen is pretty much hot. He's got a lot of responsibilities trying to keep his pub floating, and needs the money. Against his better judgement he accepts Sloane's offer to be her pretend boyfriend. He's witty for sure, and does everything he can think of to make Sloane break the ruse.

It's a very quick read, and will have you laughing at the predicaments these two get themselves into. Watching them interact is fun. They are polar opposites but tend to ease up around each other. I loved seeing these two get to know each other, and the fast pace in which everything happens. ( )

A fun read filled with witty banter, hilarious situations, and a hunky Scotsman. Sloane and Galen are great characters and when their pretend relationship turns into more, I found myself cheering that they find a way to make it work! A wonderfully written story with a brilliant Scottish twist on a familiar trope. I definitely recommend this one. ( )
