Nice! Back with the SWAT pack, bedeviled by HR and diversity rules - but Gage has been planning for this for a while (so he was pushed, but not a lot). Why shouldn't a woman have the same trigger as a man? Khaki Blake is great - not unrealistically perfect, but a solid character with her own thoughts and motivations. I found the thing about her and Xander's interlocking scents neat - especially with her special scent abilities. Wonder if Xander might find himself with some of those abilities himself, down the line? The keeping it a secret was...really dumb, but neither of them was really thinking clearly at that point (and that was pretty clear). Not talking about Jeremy was equally dumb, and caused at least one unnecessary death. I really expected him to be part of the bank gang, and a crooked cop; the way it actually shook out was clever. There was quite a bit of sex, but much less explicit. I found it a reasonable level - not pages and pages of every touch and quiver, there was a lot more story to this one. Hope she kept going in this direction. Next, please! (For some odd reason, the excerpt in the back is from Book 4 of the series, not 3. Don't know why.) ( )

What’s better than one hunky alpha SWAT werewolf? When his mate is also a werewolf who just so happens to be the latest member of the Dallas SWAT team.

Khaki Blake is a police office in Washington State. She made a mistake and dated a coworker and when the relationship went bad she realized she no longer had the support and backup of her fellow officers. This leads to her not getting any help when she’s being ambushed and shot at by a gang, It’s also is a big turning point in her life as its when her inner wolf comes out. When the head of the Dallas SWAT team shows up to offer her not only a job on his team but to also have the chance of being around other people like her she jumps at the chance.

Corporal Xander Riggs who runs one of the two SWAT teams under Gage didn’t know what hit him when Khaki walked in. Poor man was overrun with Pheromones. Was quite humorous when both he and Khaki tried to deny they were destined for each other.

Along with a great romance I loved that we got to go through SWAT training with these guys and get a glimpse as to what it takes to be on a SWAT team. Each of the missions they were sent on were written with such reality I could envision it as if I was watching it on TV.

Xander and Dixon are called in for a meeting. It seems that the city has decided that an all male SWAT team leaves them open to charges of sexual discrimination and they have decided that it's time to change that. Xander and Dixon are initially resistant to this change but the city gives them no choice in this matter. When several candidates are offered up for selection Dixon is adamant that no one the city has centered out will do and decides that he needs to be given the chance to find his own female candidate. Xander is worried about how they are going to hide the fact that the SWAT team is made up of alpha male werewolves but Dixon has a plan. It seems that he has found a female werewolf who just might fit the ticket.

The notion of a female werewolf is a surprise to everyone having only ever encountered men before. For her part, Khaki ( yes I agree this is one messed up name) Blake, is ready for a change when Dixon shows up to offer her a job on Dallas SWAT. She's been blackballed on her own department thanks to her ex and this leaves her without backup in critical situations. Khaki is also excited to finally be with people who are just like her, even if she doesn't know what that makes her exactly. The move to Dallas ends up being more than a chance at a dream job, it's a chance to find out who she is and meet her potential mate. For Dixon it means an end to the pressure because just one woman on the team qualifies them to meet criteria for inclusivity.

Despite her horrendous name, I really liked Khaki as a female lead. Knowing that she is entering an area of policing that she has no experience in, Khaki is determined to earn the pack's respect. Sure, some of it comes naturally to her but she's not afraid to put herself on the line when necessary or ask questions of her teammates except Xander to clarify procedure. It's nice to see a character who actually acknowledges when she doesn't know something. Khaki is all too aware that her ignorance could endanger the rest of the team. Finally, on Mac's (Dixon's fiance) advise, she finally seeks out Xander to figure out how to get her werewolf mojo going. With her super strong nose, and now werewolf mojo, Khaki quickly becomes a force to be reckoned with.

Wolf Trouble reads like the standard paranormal romance that it is. Tyler uses pheromones to explain away the insta love that Khaki (yes, I hate it even more each time I type it) and Xander feel for each other. Xander, unlike Khaki, is not a new werewolf and the moment he realised he was captivated by her scent, it should have hit him right away that Khaki was THE ONE. The fact that he wonders around in a daze unable to figure out what is going on is ridiculous. I don't understand Xander's confusion about his feelings, given how often he went on about how over powering Khaki's scent is.

Speaking of scent, Daniels repeatedly wrote about Khaki's and Xander's scents. Look, I get the whole pheromone thing but did we really have hear about the smell of Khaki's vagina?
Even that slight movement caused the most blatantly sexual scent to waft up from her aroused pussy. She might have had jeans on, but her sensitive nose picked up the uniquely feminine scent with no problem at all. (pg 117)
Thank you but no. I didn't really need to read that, especially given that Xander and Khaki are not big on showering after sex unless there's a chance that they will run into another werewolf who might happen to notice that they smell of each other. It's a massive case of Anita Fug. I was further irked that Khaki believed that she had to have multiple showers daily before sleeping with Xander for fear that the other werewolves would smell her vagina and lose control. Just no. The idea of a vagina as this smelly pungent place that women should be ashamed of irked the hell out of me. It's sexist and wrong.

Ending a bad relationship with a spoiled man who's influence on the force makes him virtually untouchable has made the heroine's job and life quite miserable. On top of that, she's also dealing with strange and bizarre new abilities acquired after a near death experience. So when a man comes to offer her a job in Dallas as part of his SWAT team of werewolves, she instantly jumps on the idea. First off, there's nothing left for her in her current life, second, she'll get away from her psycho ex and lastly, she has a chance to be with her own kind. Filled with book excitement and nerves, she meets her new team and much to her delight and relief they seem to welcome her with open arms. That is, everyone but her squad leader. The hero had been against the idea of recruiting a female member to their team from the jump and when he lays eyes on the heroine, that sense of dread skyrockets. Not because of her lack of experience or because she can't do the job- as a matter of fact the speed and skill in which she learns the ropes is astonishing- but rather his apprehension comes in the form of his own all consuming desire for her. Something about her, the way she smell, her beauty and grace has ensnared him good and every moment he has to spend pretending he wants nothing to do with her is absolute torture. The heroine finds her squad leader to be maximum eye candy and even though it's play he dislikes her, that doesn't stop her from lusting after him hard. For the new week the heroine pushes herself through her training and at the same time trying to fight off the need to jump the hero's bones. She made the mistake of sleeping with a colleague before and it didn't turn out well to say the least and the fact the he's her boss makes things even more forbidden. But eventually they just can't fight it anymore and succumb to their passion. They start a feverish but secretive affair. Hard to do when the guys you work with can smell arousal and the scent of the hero all over you. But somehow they manage to keep it under the radar for the moment part. They know their boss won't approve of what their doing and if he finds out, she'll be transferred. But when the crazy ex comes back into the picture and the hero is almost fatally wounded the heroine's reactions lets the cat out of the bag and they must make the choice of staying int he squad or parting ways with their pack to be with each other. This was an awesome book. I think what sparked my interest most was the fact that though the desire between them was obvious from their first encounter, they didn't actually start sleeping with each other until halfway through the book. Instead of jumping into bed immediately, they actually tried to keep cool heads and refrain from what is considered taboo and even unethical. The heroine was also a great character and believable in her role as female SWAT. Yes she was a woman and yes she was admittedly smaller and less strong then her team mates but she had werewolf dna and possessed training and street smarts that excelled her usefulness in the male dominated profession. The hero was bad ass and distant towards her at first but once he realized she was his mate, his whole demeanor changed and he went from pushing her away to willing to leave his pack behind to be with her. Together I loved their relationship as it developed from awkward tension to a deep love affair. I thought the story was well written and well paced and that the subplot of the bank robbers was interesting. Overall I can say I loved this book. This author is definitely an up and comer and I can't wait to see what other wolves she's deliver. ( )

With this second installment of the SWAT series, I have become a Paige Tyler fan. She does a great job writing growly alpha male heroes without giving them any a$$hole qualities. I absolutely love this team of alpha wolf shifters, and I look forward to reading every one of their stories. (I also need to work Ms. Tyler's other series, X-Ops, into the blog schedule now that I know there may be more growlers for my book boyfriend collection!)

I really liked Khaki, our heroine in this book. She had wanted to be a cop from a young age and was succeeding in her goal until she got tangled up with a douchecanoe in her department. That guy (Jeremy) was a piece of work, and I loved seeing Khaki put him in his place instead of playing the meek mouse. I knew she was gonna slide right in to the Dallas SWAT team, but I did not anticipate just how kicka$$ she would be from the get-go. I was 100% supportive of this heroine and her story.

However, as much as I liked Khaki, I think I liked Xander just that tiny bit more. But hey, I'm a chick and he's a hot growly alpha wolf - my lust cannot be helped. Xander had it bad for Khaki from the first whiff, and it totally confused him and put him in an awkward position as her squad leader. But they finally figure out they have mutual lust and get busy... on the floor, bed, table, wall, you name it. I was not jealous, not one bit. (This is me, rolling my eyes.)

The suspense plot in this book continued to keep my interest, and compelled me to finish in one sitting. Because both of our main characters are wolves in this installment, the paranormal aspect drove the story more than it did in Hungry Like the Wolf. I enjoyed learning a little more about those furry abilities and how they come and go. And Xander was great in the teacher role. This read is sure to be a hit with readers of the paranormal genre.

I received an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. 4 stars / 3 flames. ( )
