( ) 3.25 Stars My least favorite of the entire series. Why? I hate YA/NA drama and angst. And boy did Painter and Melanie take that to the Nth degree, IMO. Painter drove me nutz the first half of the book and Melanie drove me to sheer insanity the 2nd half. I will say the writing was good, but it also seemed repetitive to me with the thoughts of both mc's. Which also helped to take this down a notch for me. There is some good story here and if you can get past of the unnecessary youthful angst and drama, you will enjoy the story. I know a lot of readers enjoy YA/NA drama. It's just not for me. Now, there are some great steamy sex scenes throughout. I really enjoyed those. And there is things happening with Gage in another town that has to do with another club. Painter is very involved in that. And those parts I liked. But there just isn't enough details about the mystery, suspense and intrigue to keep my attention going. I would dub this a 'Relationship' story. It's 90% about Painter and Melanie's interactions with each other. IMO, a lot of what went down with them could have been edited out and more suspense etc put in. I'm currently reading book #6 [b:Reaper's Fire|27188165|Reaper's Fire (Reapers MC, #6)|Joanna Wylde|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1452189646l/27188165._SX50_.jpg|47224142] and enjoying it tons more than I did this one. Just goes to show, when you read a series like this, there is always one book that doesn't appeal to you. But it's worth reading just to get all the details to move on to the next. Reaper's Fall is part of Reaper's Motorcycle Club series. This was Painter's and Melanie's story. The story was good and enjoyable. I did find it a little annoying that the story was told in first person point of view, but the narrator rotated every few pages between Painter and Melanie. Sometimes it made the story hard to follow especially when each narrator would occasionally jump to second person and speak directly to the audience. It definitely made it hard to get lost in the story. I did enjoy the story and visiting characters who had been in previous books. Overall, another good entry in this series. I had been waiting on pins and needles for this book and I'm glad I finally got it. This is Mel and Painter's story. Now I know a lot of folks aren't too keen on Painter. He's arrogant, and a**hole, and all other kinds or rude names but....he won me to his side during Reaper's Stand when he showed his softer side twice to London. (Once after Em had hooked up with Hunter and then when he offered to give London money and to turn his back if she wanted to make a getaway, knowing he would get in trouble for either helping her escape or letting her escape.) And let's face it...when it comes to the "good girls" like Mel is trying to be the badder the buy the harder they fall. Melanie, since we know her back story half the time I gave her a pass because having an abusive drunk for a father and a mother who left you with the fool would scar any young girl. And you can tell by the tone of the letters she wrote to Painter just how naive she was. But she has goals and grit, got to admire that. Painter, Painter, Painter...for all the bravado and swagger just a guy looking for someone to love him faults and all. Yes, he talks of staying away from her because she deserved better than he got a bit old after a while. No MC brother would ever have THAT low of an opinion of himself. If he can admit to being an A**hole and a jerk why can't he see that maybe they did deserve a chance. Nope we have to take the extra long and bumpy road to coupledom. Will admit that when Mel told him she was pregnant and his massive freak out was not unexpected. Come on, things were starting to go too good and we can't have that. So what's a guy to do, ride with his MC club and get thrown back in prison to serve out the rest of his term. DUH...guess he didn't think that through. Once inside he has the infamous I messed up light bulb moment. Now can he make it up to Mel? Well of course he can but it's not going to be easy or happen overnight as we discover Mel is stubborn and can hold a mean grudge. Now things that irritated me...people actually Kit and Jess (and to a point Em, whom I liked during her book but now, all bets are off). These two have nothing better to do than screw with people lives, screw as many guys as possible and try and tell others how to live their lives. I know in one of the earlier books we got an epilogue that shows us Jess graduating school and doing better. Great but for the here and now I wanted to slap her around and tell her to get her head out of her panties and get a clue. Kit, what is her problem? Okay so Picnic, her dad and MC President, screwed around a lot after their mom died..what did she expect him to do, become a monk? Loved seeing Puck from this side. Now I know where he went when he would disappear from Becca's radar. He proved his loyalty to Painter time and time again. While this one didn't get as violent as some of the others in the series there was enough to remind you this is about the world of an MC and sometimes bad things happen. Just knew that when Painter met his daughter he would be a goner. What's the saying "The bigger they are the harder they fall" and I have yet to see a man who doesn't crumple at the sight of his daughter. Being that he had to remain in prison while Mel and Izzy we're fending for themselves, yup talk about a guilt trip. But he pulls himself around and tries to do right by both of them. Heck he even told Mel if she didn't want him fine but to stay away from bikers because that would mean she was entering into his world and then he would be large and in charge. Love the fact that we see his artistic talent taking him in new directions (and legally money making!!!) So once again we get drama, comedy and a HEA for two people so in love that they are afraid of the depth of their feelings. Like I said in the beginning to me it was worth waiting for. Now we got hints of Gage and Tinker...hoping that will be the next book. I know eventually we'll get something on Kit and Jessica but right now I want both of them voted off the island and sent on a one-way trip to Pluto. ;) aucune critique | ajouter une critique
