"Cofounder of the international beauty company Caudali;e shares the simple, natural, time-tested beauty secrets she learned growing up in France that any woman can use to look younger, healthier, and more radiant without harsh products or drastic procedures. When Mathilde Thomas moved from her native France to the United States to expand her skin-care company, Caudali;e, she wanted to find out what American women wanted from their beauty routines. She interviewed thousands of women and was struck by how different the French and American approaches to beauty were. American women are all about the quick fix-the elusive product or procedure that will instantly solve a nagging beauty problem, even if it hurts, is wildly expensive, or is damaging in the long term. The French, by contrast, approach beauty as an essential and pleasurable part of the day, a lifelong and active investment that makes you look and feel good. Mathilde used these insights to turn Caudali;e into one of America's top beauty brands. Drawing on her company's twenty years of scientific skin-care expertise backed by the research of doctors and dermatologists-as well as the beauty secrets she learned growing up on a vineyard in Bordeaux-The French Beauty Solution covers everything from how to use natural ingredients such as oil and honey to wash your face; what foods to eat for healthier hair, skin, and nails; and the amazing properties of grapes and grapeseed oil. She also introduces an easy three-day grape cleanse that European aristocrats have been using to detox for hundreds of years. Blending stories, science, DIY recipes, and tons of savoir faire, The French Beauty Solution is the last beauty regimen you'll ever need. "--… (plus d'informations)

The French Beauty Solution isn’t much of a solution. There’s nothing new here that couldn’t be found in a Cosmo magazine. Instead it seems to be an extended advertisement for the French beauty brand called Caudalie. There are better resources for guidance on cosmetics.

Other than the ending, which was the talk about a grape cleanse, there was no new information here. The book isn't bad at all just not much new info. That really isn't her fault though. I mean, we know so much about skin care now right? Lots of good stuff about organic and healthy skin care and makeup. She does recommend her line, Caudalie, but that is to be expected since she owns it and I don't have a problem with that. I knew that going in. But she does recommend other products as well. I wish there was 1 list in the back that had all her recommendations. Instead, they are scattered about the book. Also, there is a lot of duplication. She says the same thing multiple times and sometimes on the same page. There were 5 pages in a row that said not to use shampoo with sulfates. Got it the 1st time. ( )

I only sort of liked this book. Written by the founder of Caudalie skin care, it felt vastly judgmental towards Americans, though given that the author is French, this comes as no surprise.

This sounded like a great idea when I was looking at it on the library’s website, but when it showed up on the hold shelf and I saw that it included a “detox diet” my spirits sagged. I didn’t want quackery, I wanted time-tested advice on simple beauty habits. There were some of those, and I have to hand it to the author for not simply recommending her own desperately expensive products as the answer to everything (I also didn’t know about that bias before I put a hold on the book) so it wasn’t a complete loss. Thomas is the founder of the Caudalie company which sells beauty products. I find it amazing that she and her husband started the company from basically nothing but a scientific theory! I also appreciated her straightforward approach to beauty advice and have followed through on some of her suggestions for myself. But, you need to take this book with a grain of salt as she is, obviously, plugging her company's products throughout. ( )
