Bear is a bear, but he doesn’t want to be. He is tired of sleeping all winter and fighting off bees, so he decides that he is done with being a bear. He sees a line of ducks so he joins them, doing his best to be a good duck. Duck tells him that he doesn’t belong, but Bear asks her to teach him how to be a duck. Bear tries nest building, swimming, and flying. Things don’t go as he hoped, but Bear learns that he makes a really good bear.

This is a charming book about friendship and learning to appreciate the strengths of who you are. The illustrations by Hudson are charming, particularly Bear’s facial expressions as he tries his hardest to be good at being a duck. The humor in the book feels natural and will be enjoyed by both kids and adults. Hudson’s first picture book is sure to bring a smile. ( )

Bear is tired of being hot, sleeping all winter, and getting stung on the nose by bees. We wants to be something else. He wants to be a duck. To become a duck he has to take duck lessons. He must learn to build a nest, swim, and even fly. And some things may be harder than he thought. A wonderful story of friendship. ( )

Ever tried to be someone you weren't? Bear is sick of being a bear. He is tired of getting stung by bees and sleeping all winter. He tries to be a duck and doesn't succeed. I think children will learn to always be themselves and accept what you are. Meaning it's ok to be from a different culture or team. When duck sees ho great of s climber bear is, bear accepts the fact that he can not change and being a bear isn't so bad after all. Picking up the book at first I just thought a bear and a duck were going t become friends. Not, a bear trying to be a duck. At the end Bear and Duck become good friends. I like that even though they are different species or came from different backgrounds they still became friends. Which is important to the world today. ( )

Bear wasn't happy as a bear, he thought he could be happy by becoming a duck. So Duck decides to teach him to do "duck" things: building a nest, swimming, and even flying! Duck notices that Bear is a great climber, showing him that being a bear isn't all bad. Hudson paints an adorable story about friendship and how you should always be happy to be yourself. ( )
