In this installment of the Dalek War, the Daleks have caught up with Susan Mendes, their former Angel of Mercy who was used to spur the Daleks’ human slaves on to work harder and faster. She is essential to their plans for universal domination. But Alby won’t let the Daleks get her without a fight. Nor will Mirana, nor Morli. Meanwhile, Kalendorf is playing his own game with another faction of Daleks led (?) by a figure known as the Mentor.
This is one of those series where going into too much plot detail spoils a whole bunch of other volumes. Suffice it to say that this hour flew by quickly. The Daleks were pretty intelligible this time around; sometimes they are a bit too tinny for my ear. I do wonder if using better earbuds helped.
My favourite character in this series is Drudger. He is a fussy little robot and he reminds me of K-9 in vocal patterns. He gets a good bit of play in this installment.
I did find this a little bit repetitive in places: you could start a Dalek War drinking game by taking a drink every time a Dalek demands that Suz surrender, and then she says “Well then I’ll just kill myself, because without me alive your plan is useless”. And the brain analysis scene made my skin crawl.
I’m going to have to listen to the next installment immediately! ( )
