I received a free copy of this novel in exchange for my honest review.

The Plague of Shadows is book one in The Harbinger of Light series. The story begins with Abagail waking from a very strange dream. Abagail lives a normal like in O, one of the nine worlds. After her father hurt his leg, she and her sister Leona assist with the day to day chores. Little did she know, helping her father that day with their bees would change her life forever; it seems as if the bees somehow have the shadow plague and now she has been contaminated. Her father sends Leona, Rorick and herself through the portal she never knew existed, to find his sister in Agaranth to teach her how to control the darkness before it consumes her. Everything she once thought was a myth has now become a harsh reality and this is how their adventure begins.

Once again Travis Simmons has created an amazing world in vivid detail. You are immediately drawn in and fascinated by the characters. As Abagail comes to terms with her powers, you see her slowly gain the courage needed to keep Rorick and Leona safe. I was really sad when Leona had to sacrifice her doll, but I hope Skuld isn’t gone for good. You can sense a love triangle in the works; after all, the sisters and Rorick are close friends. I also love the fact that they have encountered an elf and pixie so far. There are lots of unanswered questions running through my mind that I hope book two will cover. Once again, I’m in eager anticipation of the next book in the series.

Travis does it again. I noticed after reading the book that I read out of order, this book was #1 as I had already read #2. Either way it was a good read, just very long chapters. I like his style. ( )

Abigail follows the rules the Light Guard has put into place, even though her sister, Leona and father do not. But she thinks all the other thinks they are told about "other lands and creatures" are myths, fairy tales.
Leona talks about what she pleases and doesn't pay much attention to the rules put into place. But she believe in the other lands and creatures.
These 2 sisters will now embark on a journey that will prove one wrong and one right, an adventure that will show them things they never would have guessed or imagined in their wildest dreams.
The author builds a world that is easily view in your mind. Would've been 5 stars if not for the fact that the book seems to end in the middle of a chapter. It just drops off, but a very good read and likable characters.

I received a free copy of this book for an honest and impartial review: A Plague of Shadows is an interesting spin on Norse mythology surrounding nine worlds centered on a cosmological tree, Yggdrasil. Young Abigail, her sister Leona and neighbor Rorick travel on the rainbow bridge through to one of the other worlds due to Abigail's affliction and the shadows who are hunting her. The book ends leaving right after a major encounter with the main characters and a demon hunter. The book was well written and character development was good. Plenty of dialogue with minor narration. There were a few small confusing points right at the beginning but i don't feel it detracted from the overall story. Very good start on a series and I look forward to more from the author. ( )
