First, the characters in this book are directly related to the television show/movie series Transformers which are aimed towards kids, so they can relate quicker to this book. Each character is mildly developed but are also simplistic enough that young readers do not get hung up on all the details. Such as, Chase the Police-Bot says “I can turn into a police car. My lights flash when I blast my siren. I am fast on wheels!” This shows how the main character Chase can be both a robot and a police car without adding so much detail that it confuses young readers. The development of these characters leads to the second good aspect of this book, the simplistic but entertaining plot.
The plot in this book is very good and takes place in two different small, but entertaining, adventures that the rescue bots go on. First there is the museum fire which they must go to and save all the humans from being hurt. The illustrations in this segment are quick action packed and would be found both fun and descriptive by young readers. The second part of the plot involves the rescue bots having to corral a loose robot that got damaged in the fire. They do this by working as a team while Chase and the other rescue bots distract the loose dino-bot, their companion Blades (also a helicopter) goes to get a cage to trap the loose bot. The illustrations in this segment lead the reader through every aspect being told by the text and this benefits younger readers in case they can’t understand all the words. The plot is very well organized and suspenseful at times to keep the reader entertained thus making that the strongest part of this book.
The big idea of this story is teamwork and how different problems have different solutions. The way the rescue bots work together like a well oiled machine can show young readers how groups of people can come together to solve common problems. Also the problems presented in the book require the whole team to solve them efficiently and quickly showing readers that it’s better to work together then on ones own. ( )
