Good solid book. Second of the three guide-dog books I've read. Two of which have been fiction, including this one here. Third of the four 'books-with-blind-main-characters' books I've read, three of which have been fiction, and romances.

I liked Faith, though I had been under a mistaken assumption about her past. I had gotten the odd impression that Faith was a rich adventurous woman who got into an accident that caused her to go blind. Everything about her seemed to scream class and privilege. A couple of comments late in the story corrected my misconceptions.

Kate was likable, but her whole situation with Trish was vile. It's possible that Kate's bad traits were heightened and or created just being around Trish but they certainly were there. Like the book opens with Kate answering the phone. She seems to go out of her way to try to cause Trish to not be able to sleep while answering the phone. Literally pounding on the bed, taking the call right there instead of leaving the room, etc. She seemed to have no concern for Trish in those moments. Just bringing in another dog without mentioning it at all with Trish. Granted, Trish is a massive bitch, but that was a bitchy move of her own that Kate pulled.

Then Kate and Trish split. Due to Trish cheating on Kate. Kate spends weeks crying and losing weight and being generally horrible. Faith helps pull Kate from the abyss. Kate and Faith seem to be going in a certain direction, they even kiss. Then Trish makes some begging comments and . . . . now it's Kate who is the one doing the cheating. Bah.

I suppose I'm supposed to feel sorry for Kate, but she knew Trish was a vile nasty creature for years, and knew their relationship was dead long before she found Trish cheating on her. Heck, they'd fallen so far in their relationship that they weren't even on the "friends with benefits" level, but below that to "roommates who very rarely tease each other." Bah.

Still, I liked Faith enough, and despite what I've written, liked Kate enough, that I could look past that if I could. Which I could, since the story was solid. Neat story of training a guide dog. Riding horses, hiking, etc. ( )
