Adelaide, city of my birth, the city of churches, the city of more murders, disappearances and unexplainable events than cities ten times its size.

The disappearance of the three Beaumont children in 1966 is perhaps the most famous unsolved mystery in Australian history and, although I may be biased here, I can't think of too many other mysteries in the world to match what happened in Adelaide on Australia Day 1966.

Alan Whiticker doesn't come up with any startling claims or new evidence but he sets out what is known about the case (sadly not much) well and while I knew much of the background about Adelaide he writes of, I suppose there would be the odd non-Adelaidean who would benefit from the background.

For fans of true crime and mysteries, this is as good a case as you're going to get, so worth a read. ( )
