Since this was an India folk tale it was rather lengthy and not terribly interesting. It gave a good message that people today even still uphold, to love and care for the environment. I like how the story showed all the good that the trees did for the people in the village and how the woman passed down her love for the trees to her children. It showed a good message also that when she stood up to the ax men other people saw this passion and helped her as well. I like in the authors note it puts how those people in the village died trying to protect the trees but did not put that in the actual story to keep it light for children. The main message of this book was to stand up for the environment and do your part to help even when it is difficult. ( )
