I read one of the Prince Zaleski stories (The S.S.) and that was enough to lure me to buy this book. This style is as luxuriant as Poe or Clark Ashton Smith. Zaleski I a foreign prince, disappointed in love, who lives in a small luxurious apartment amid a vast ruin, while Monk is a very wealthy man "of Hebrew blood" who lives I a London flat, but they are alike in being able to discern the meaning of the most obscure and bizarre mysteries.
