I saw this one, The Clockwork Soldier by Ken Liu, linked on Tor's Facebook page. It's a free, online story on the website of Clarkesworld Magazine, which can be read and listened to; see the audio link on the same page. The story features a bounty hunter, the hunted one, and a text-based game. The story revolves around sentience for androids. It could, somehow, have been an [a:Isaac Asimov|16667|Isaac Asimov|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1341965730p2/16667.jpg] story, no?

There's also a political and economic sub-layer, or, compare it to today's use of robots in multiple domains and how they replace humans, causing many to be unemployed.

For me, this was an entertaining story - which probably is or could be part of a bigger story - with some original elements (and an unexpected - well, it was to me - end), but as good as Kate Baker is (she has a soft voice, also very much suited for night radio, if I may say/write so), it's probably best to read the story yourself and imagine yourself which voices the characters would/should have. ( )

The Clockwork Soldier was my favorite of this issue. And I always enjoy anything in Aliette de Bodard's Xuya Universe, Ship's Brother was no exception. ( )

Ken Liu's offering of The Clockwork Soldier displays his skills once again. I read this one and also listened to the podcast which made it even better. All the other stories were decent and kept me engaged. ( )
