Frannie Shoemaker and her friends are off on another campground adventure, and this one features a pair of adult identical twins, who still dress identically and even move in unison much of the time.

The conflict between them is not apparent until an old flame of one of the women walks into the pie shop where Frannie and friends have been noticing the twins eating with movements uncannily like synchronized swimmers. One woman is sad, the other is angry, and the man is very, very confused.

The friends are puzzled, but it's not their business, and there's no reason for them to go prying. The rumors of a meth lab in the area, and the rundown camper on a property adjoining the campground that looks like a candidate for the rumored meth lab, are much more concerning.

At least, that's the case until the twins turn up dead, clearly murdered.

Of course, the friends, especially Frannie and, though he doesn't want to admit it, her husband, retired cop Larry, can't just sit back and leave the entire investigation to the local police. Especially not since Frannie and Donna were the ones who discovered the bodies.

This is a story about mature characters with their quirks and foibles, characters who, three books into the series, are learning more about themselves and each other. They're smart, but smart doesn't always mean sensible, and they do make mistakes. I like that Frannie in particular, our main viewpoint character, is learning from experience over the course of the books without changing who she is as a person. It's an enjoyable, fairly light, clean mystery, where most of the characters are decent people with good intentions even when they get things wrong.

As always, Michelle Babb's narration is excellent.

Recommended.

Review: Peete and Repeat by Karen Musser Nortman.

This author has written a lot of mysteries that are called the, “Frannie Shoemaker Mysteries”. It’s a series that doesn’t need following unless the reader is interested and wants to read a few of these books. Each one of these books is a different mystery. However, Frannie and her husband Larry will be the two main characters in these books. This is the first mystery I have read from this author and I think she did a pretty good job with her writing and I thought her characters were developed to suit the mystery. It’s fast pace and more of a beach read. Karen Nortman could have added a little more to the ending but over all it was good.

Frannie and her husband like to travel and do some camping in different areas. The setting of this mystery is in Minnesota this time. Frannie is the type of woman whose curiosity is always one step ahead of her. On this trip they are with a few of their friends in different campers and it doesn’t take them long to get settled closed to each other in the campground. They all seem to like the adventure of hiking, biking, canoeing, bird watching and taking advantage of some of the campgrounds activities.

After they were all set up and relaxed they met a few of the other campers nearby. Among the campers are two identical twins who liked to impersonate each other, an old flame from one of the twins past, a young man who is training to be part of a terrorist group, a country singer with a fake accent, a suspected operating meth lab, and a Nature Center employee riding around with a four wheeler to check up if any of the campers needed anything. Somehow in the midst of their recreation activities they also happen upon a shocking murder scene while hiking on one of the trails. This is where the mystery comes in and Frannie, like usual, without trying gets involved with the investigation. Her husband Larry is a retired cop and near the end of the book he also gets involved.

The story unfolded smoothly with likable characters and the environment setting was relaxing even for the reader. There was no up and down thrills but a great mystery. ( )

Peete and Repeat by Karne Musser Nortman is another hit in the delightful Frannie Shoemaker series. Frannie and friends are off to the campground again and of course, there's murder afoot. One evening twin sisters, photographers by trade, stopped by Frannie's campsite to visit and seemed to be living the life. By morning they were pushing up daisies! This cozy whodunit has plenty of antics and adventures to keep the pages turning--with abandoned power plants and tunnels, meth labs, a wannabe Nashville singer, and a gigolo to boot. And sure enough, the suspects just keep lining up. Can Frannie stay safe while poking around to solve the mystery? These books almost make me want to go camping. With Frannie at the next campsite, I'm sure there would never be a dull moment. Michelle Babb does a great job in narrating the audio book, giving each character their own voice and making an enjoyable listening experience.
I was given a complimentary copy of the audiobook in exchange for an honest review ( )

Group of retired friends take their trailers to a familiar campground and get involved in a murder investigation. All of the characters are totally believable, and so are their interactions. The weaving of the background of those who become the victims is not seamless, but it works anyway. It was good, and the length was perfect!
I have the audio version, and Michelle Babb is perfect in portraying each character and the narratives.
