Lisa Jewell is an author I can rely on for a story of curiosity and suspense in a domestic setting. She has quickly become a favorite author! Adrian is at the center of what he perceives to be a very amicable, layered family in the novel, The Third Wife. The story opens with Maya, Adrian’s third wife, fatally stepping in front of a bus in the early morning hours. There is no clear conclusion whether Maya’s death was an accident or suicide. As Adrian grieves the loss of his third wife, family secrets begin to emerge. Adrian is quite the character. He appears to have great relationships with his two former wives and five children. All three families even vacation together! Maya seems to have been a wonderful wife who helped Adrian navigate his multiple family responsibilities. As time takes its course, reality for each of these characters surfaces and what’s been hiding in the dark, comes to the light. I thoroughly enjoyed this book! In reflection, it was interesting how my thoughts about Adrian fluctuated throughout the story. There were times I felt compassion for him, times I thought he was blind and selfish, and moments he exhibited potential. I appreciate when an author can illustrate the many sides of a person as it allows the character to be authentic. I enjoyed the ending; it was concluded as neatly as can be expected for a story with a large family and endless dynamics. I purchased the audiobook of The Third Wife from Audible. Narration by Joe Jameson provided a pleasing listening experience. I have photos, videos, and additional information that I'm unable to include here. It can all be found on my blog, in the link below. A Book And A Dog aucune critique | ajouter une critique
In the early hours of a summer morning, a young woman steps into the path of an oncoming bus. A tragic accident? Or suicide? At the center of this puzzle is Adrian Wolfe, a successful architect and grief-stricken widower, who, a year after his third wife's death, begins to investigate the cause. As Adrian looks back on their brief but seemingly happy marriage, disturbing secrets begin to surface. The divorces from his two previous wives had been amicable, or so it seemed; his children, all five of them, were resilient as ever, or so he thought. But something, or someone, must have pushed Maya over the edge. Fans of Liane Moriarty and Jojo Moyes will be captivated by this riveting family drama with a dark mystery at its core. Maya is Adrian's third wife. The book begins with her death when she is hit by a bus (which would be an odd choice for suicide, in my opinion).
Before Maya, though, Adrian had two children with his first wife and three more with his second. They have all been getting along and getting together for holidays and vacations. They still do after Maya becomes the third wife. They all appear to love her. Then Maya begins receiving horrible letters with details that only someone from the family could know. Did this lead to her death?
Then a woman pretends to want Maya's cat after she has died. For a while she keeps reappearing and seems to be a stalker. But she suddenly stops. Adrian searches for her, hoping to get answers.
Lisa Jewell wrote THE THIRD WIFE a decade ago. I was lucky to have found it. You'll enjoy this one as much as you do her later books. ( )
