An unforgettable story about the bond between mothers, daughters, and sisters, by one of today's favorite women's fiction authors. When Joely Doyle was old enough, she left home and set out to create her own identity-away from the faded photographs of the father she never knew, and the faded dreams of her mother, Mimi, who would wait forever for his return. Now, an urgent phone call from her big sister Cat has brought Joely back to Maine for their mother's bittersweet final days. For Joely, now in love with a man of her own, home means scores to settle, debts to be paid, and a family history to finally unravel. But the more she discovers of her sister's life, her father's secrets, and her mother's sacrifices, the closer she comes to understanding the twists of fate that shaped her past, and the choices she must now make that will define her future.… (plus d'informations)

Two sisters struggle to come together when their formerly famous mom suffers a stroke and burns down her house, but their own issues with intimacy get in everyone’s way. Bretton’s book shows promise, but the story ends almost before it begins with a too convenient and hurried ending.

Typical romance, which is to say mediocre. Lots of angst and misunderstandings, fragile dysfunctional adults because of secret tragedies in their past, but the love of a good man (not to mention a talking to by your best gay friend) will set everything straight in a heartbeat. ( )

The sister's father leaves when one is 10 and the other just an infant. Their mother waits for his return. She no longer cares for her girls.

The sisters do the best they can doing things on their own. As soon as the the youngest is old enough she leave the country and moves to the UK. The oldest sister stays and looks after her mother.

When their mother need medical attention it brings the sisters back together. There is much resentment for what their mother has done in the past. This is a difficult time for the sisters.

This makes for a fast enjoyable read. A great book to read on a relaxing day. ( )

38's old. Okay. Gah. And 2 sisters in their 30s with preternaturally understanding long-term boyfriends can't commit because their father left their mother, ergo All Men Leave. I'm rolling my eyes here. Get over it already. I hated all the characters. Basically a typical women's fiction, and reminds me why I loathe this genre in general. ( )
