Nothing startlingly original, but it moves at a good pace and the main characters are believable and likeable. Evokes the flavour of respectable Victorian London very well. Worth a try. ( ) This is the fifth book in this excellent series of Victorian crime stories.Although known generally as 'Inspector Ben Ross' mysteries, they could be equally entitled 'Lizzie Ross' mysteries as his wife does quite as much investigating as he does. In the intriguing start to this one,Ben is called to Newgate prison to hear the testimony of soon to be executed James Wills. Wills wants to pass on the fact that sixteen years ago he witnessed a murder which has never previously come to light. Ross follows this up,but receives little encouragement from his superiors. aucune critique | ajouter une critique

A hanged man would say anything to save his life. But what if his testimony is true? When Inspector Ben Ross is called to Newgate Prison by a man condemned to die by the hangman's noose he isn't expecting to give any credence to the man's testimony. But the account of a murder he witnessed over seventeen years ago is so utterly believeable that Ben can't help wondering if what he's heard is true. It's too late to save the man's life, but it's not too late to investigate a murder that has gone undetected for all these years. Aucune description trouvée dans une bibliothèque |
