I was not immediately intrigued by this novel, but once I got past the slow beginning things became much more interesting. I was often annoyed with Ashton and how easily he was attracted to other women, but I am glad I kept reading because he shows so much growth by the end. All in all, it was an original, well-written story! ( )

I received this book in exchange for a review.
This was a nice story about a man traveling to the past to set things right in his present. It took me awhile to get into the book, but once I did it flowed fairly well. I don't really have any strong feelings about the book one way or another. It was an interesting subject, but I felt it was missing something. It still was an enjoyable read. ( )

I received this book from Library Thing to read and review. I have read several other works by the author and was eager to get into this one. However, I never did get into this book. I tried several times to focus on it, but each time I put the book aside for a short time because I just could not stay with it any longer, and went back after a brief break until I finally finished it. This book never did “grab” me. The story moved along rather slowly. The author provides fantastic descriptions to make the reader almost feel as if he/she is right there with the character, but, in this book in particular, there was not as much depth in the characters to pull me into their persona, to grow to know and like them. In the story, Ashton has a good life, a great wife and a beautiful child to boot. One day he finds himself Thrust mysteriously into another era, 65 years earlier, wandering around his property, observing the then dwellers, the Haverlanes, and, in particular, the troubled June Haverlane. As the story progresses, we see parallels between June’s and his own life: June is having an affair, while Ashton is about to have one with a friend and co-worker. June’s husband pays little attention to her. Ashton’s wife also ignores him, to a large extent. As Ashton continues his time travels, the past begins to merge with the present. Finally, Ashton tracks down June’s sister, and together they work to figure out what is going on and ways to solve whatever problems exist. The book was, as I said, slow moving. I am not a fan of time travel, for the most part. This book was done better than some I have read, but I still was a bit confused until things got going. The author’s vivid descriptions throughout helped me stay with the book, though it will never be one of my favorites or one of his better works, in my opinion. I think any lover of descriptive books and/or time travel will enjoy this one. ( )

This is an excellent book. I was very drawn in to Ashton's life and his journeys into the past. I quickly found that I did not want to put the book down, excited to learn what would happen next. Highly recommended! ( )
