This story isn’t just cute, sweet, and hot, it also takes the level of warmth up another notch. The emotional intensity of an ex-Marine who has lost one leg and is just now finding a way to live and be loved again is great, as is the realism of what it can mean to suffer from PTSD. The emphasis is on the dealing with it though, not as much the suffering. And in that sense, this is also a book with a message of hope. Recovering from heavy physical trauma will be different for everyone, but just seeing one case end well is a wonderful thing. Ex-Marine Liam has gone through a really rough patch. A bomb took most of his right leg, he had other wounds to deal with as well, and got into real trouble during the recovery when he started drinking. The first step, remaining sober, has been taken, and he is now about to take the next, with his prospective boyfriend, Ray. Liam is nervous, scared, and very uneasy about the idea of having Ray meet his parents, but Ray doesn’t leave him much choice. Not that Liam really minds, but he cannot help but be a little apprehensive. Ray is a wonderful man. He clearly has Liam pegged, and understands that he'll need to push a little if he wants to move their relationship to the next level. Liam just isn’t self-confident enough (yet) to take action, so Ray does. He is brilliant about it. There is no pity, just love, understanding, and wanting to help when needed. The thunderstorm (which reminds Liam of explosions) and how Ray steps up and supports Liam through it is a great scene and basically says it all. If you like stories about men dealing with physical disability and mentally readjusting their lives, if you enjoy reading stories where the lovers are really there for each other, and if you're looking for an emotional, warm read that will give you hope, then you will probably like this free short story. aucune critique | ajouter une critique

Liam is having a hard time adjusting to life after returning home from the war. He's lost a leg, scars traverse his body and he suffers from PTSD. He thinks of himself as undesirable and disgusting. The one good thing going in his life that can make him smile is Ray, who he hopes he can soon call his boyfriend although Liam is frightened to reveal all of himself to Ray.
What can I say about Ray but that man is a saint. He's infinitely patient, optimistic and helpful. He's exactly what Liam needs. Now all Liam needs, is to trust Ray enough to give himself to Ray.
We come into the story on the day that Liam and Ray's relationship takes a significant step and they grow even closer. I loved the characters and I had no problems feeling for them. The author did a great job with character development and the pacing of the story. A lot was told in this short and it was all very believable to me.
I enjoyed Nothing's Missing Now very much and I think it deserves 5 Stars.
