As a little girl I was a huge fan of Shi-Ra and when I heard that they would eventually be adding her as a character I decided that I better start getting caught up on the series now. In this volume He-Man and his friends start out having no memory of who they are. A bird leads Adam on a journey where he eventually meets up with Teela and Man at Arms and although they don't know themselves, they do recognize each other. Once they find the sword and Adam becomes He-Man everyone remembers the truth about themselves and prepares for battle. First off I thought the artwork was amazing. Just the kind of epic high fantasy style that is right for this kind of work. I like how they made the characters more grown up and the back and forth between Adam and Teela. While normally I get frustrated by the current trend of redoing everything, this was done well enough that I am happy to continue reading it. I can't wait to see what other characters are included and I am very curious about what happened with Orko and Skeletor's ending in this comic. I definitely want to continue reading the series. REVIEW AFTER READING:
This is a clever reinvention of the He-Man universe. The humor supplied by writer Keith Giffen sometimes falls flat, but the rest of the world building is wonderful. I love how nostalgic fans can see Eternia brought back to life as the characters themselves slowly remember who they are and the world they inhabit. Philip Tan's art is gorgeous and well worth the buy for that alone. Can't wait to read more! ( )
