One of the goals of this cookbook was to present slow cooker recipes that require less than 15 minutes to prepare for cooking, and to do this, the authors resort to a lot of shortcuts using prepared foods, store-bought ingredients, jarred sauces, etc., which is great if you are pressed for time, but not so interesting for those who prefer to cook from scratch, even if it requires a little more prep time. ( ) The ATK Slow Cooker Trilogy has information about products on the market in 2015-16 and technique. It favours using a microwave to soften onions and bloom aromatics, as opposed to using a skillet. When published, the books in this series were superior to other slow cookers books. The recipes are often slow cooker versions of ATK/Cooks Illustrated, and take the same approach. Some recipes are supposed to be definitive authentic home food; others are standardized versions of interesting restaurant recipes. All are subject to a demanding system ( the ATK brand secret sauce). The number of recipes is impressive, but many of the recipes are not useful except as one-time tests. A second volume of recipes for the slow-cooker, this collection focusing on easy/short prep times (max of 15 minutes) to get all ingredients into the cooker. The color photography is terrific, the ingredient lists and instructions are clear. I marked a couple dozen recipes to try this summer when I want to avoid the hot oven. And what I always like best about America’s Test Kitchen books are the technique tips, the product comparisons/recommendations and the science-y deconstructions of the recipes. Another great cookbook from America's Test Kitchen. They had great recipes in their first volume of slow cooker recipes, but those recipes didn't seem to save me time very often. In this book the recipes really are super easy--just dump the ingredients in the crock pot and a few hours later you have a fabulous meal. I cook out of this book at least once a week and it hasn't let me down yet. aucune critique | ajouter une critique

Volume 2 brings more slow cooker recipes for your family to enjoy. The test cooks at America's Test Kitchen have worked their magic again, developing and perfecting an all-new collection of 200 slow-cooker recipes. With this volume, we looked at this must-have appliance in new ways to truly maximize its potential. You'll learn how to make a host of dishes like Garlicky Shrimp, Chicken Soft Tacos, and Flourless Chocolate Cake--recipes you'd never expect to see coming out of a slow cooker. The moist heat of the slow cooker is tailor-made to serve up flavorful stews, chilis, and braises (and don't worry--we've included a good number of these), but with our smart strategies and clever ingredient selections, we were also able to pull off spice-rubbed roast chicken, ziti with meaty ragu, rare roast beef, poached salmon and even cheesecake.
