A friend of mine gave it to me as a gift and I just found this book soothing, beautiful, fresh, and I traveled with them during the whole novel! ( ) 33/2020. I didn't warm to any of the characters, and the setting is an extended advert for the Orient Express (did the author get a freebie?), but at least it's reasonably well written. I found the long sections printed entirely in italics were tiresome to read and can only guess the publisher thinks their middle class reading demographic are too thick to recognise flashbacks without additional visual cues?! It's a bit egregiously insulting to the author's writing skills too if their own publisher thinks they can't convey a common literary device. I hope e-readers can alter the font to suit their preferences. The busy street scenes had an extra poignancy because of the current coronavirus lockdown: "two old men sharing cigarettes and banter before going their separate ways". This is a feel good book. The book says, come with us on the Orient Express to Venice and everything will be alright. There are basically three storylines. All of them are going to Venice on the Orient Express with some or other worry but at the end of the journey all's well. The feel good factor is good for sometime but as you get to the halfway point you fell Oh my God there's still a couple of hundred pages of this. It's well written but it's predictable and clichéd. A 2.5/5 read. This is a wonderful read, filled with excellent and loveable characters and held together beautifully by the Orient Express train journey. One of the best modern romances I've read in a long time. I enjoyed all the different stories in the novel, and the way they came together, but my particular favourites were the elegant and glamorous older couple Riley and Sylvie. They were just brilliant. Very highly recommended indeed. aucune critique | ajouter une critique
