Inspired by Jane Austen's Pride & Prejudice, A Fair Prospect is a tale of Darcy and Elizabeth. (Please note: this is one story told across three volumes and there is, therefore, no conclusion to the storylines in the first two volumes. This story is rated PG) In Disappointed Hopes (Vol I), Fitzwilliam Darcy returns to London a devastated and humbled man following his rejection by Elizabeth Bennet. The lady, meanwhile, is battling the unprecedented feelings stirred by having endured an innocent but intimate encounter with the gentleman in the aftermath of his proposal. Soon on her way to Town herself for an unanticipated stay, she is comforted by the presence of an old family friend, one Nicholas Harington - the son of a wealthy family whose position in society rivals that of the Darcys of Pemberley. Circumstance soon throws Darcy back into the company of Elizabeth, much to their mutual consternation, and also introduces him to Harington who has emerged as a potential suitor for Elizabeth's hand, a union that is viewed as a fair prospect by all - except, perhaps, Darcy himself.… (plus d'informations)

The first part of a trilogy, this Pride and Prejudice variation starts at Hunsford Parsonage and the proposal of marriage which Elizabeth Bennet rejects. It continues as they both arrive in London. ( )

The only complaint I have about this book is that it dragged on a bit. That's sometimes fine in a fanfiction, but in a book spread out over two parts.. that's yet to be seen. It may work in the grand scheme.

An enjoyable what-if, following the original novel for the most part - with a couple of new characters to mix it up.

I really enjoyed reading the story from Darcy's POV, which really shows his struggles and lovingly displays the familial relationships and support Darcy almost doesn't realise he has.

Well written, which is always refreshing in an Austen re-write.

I thoroughly look forward to the next book. ( )
