Fiction. Literature. Romance. Emma Lewis has a lot on her plate. The single mother of two precocious twin boys, the last thing Emma needs is a man in her life, especially a doctor. So when the town's doctor goes on vacation and his handsome nephew takes over, Emma is shocked to not only find him standing in her bedroom, but accusing her of being a neglectful parent. Clint Preston came to Westen for the year to fill in as the town doc while his uncle took a long-needed vacation. Clint also needed a sense of peace and calm to try to find his passion for medicine burned out by long shifts in an urban hospital's ER. Angered to find two boys in his clinic with broken wrists and no accompanying parent, he is determined to confront their mother. The feisty redhead he meets quickly dispels his belief that she's a neglectful mother, but he can see her situation is more critical than she wishes to face and finds himself volunteering to help care for her sons and the remodeling of her home. As Emma and Clint forge a relationship, a menace from Emma's past threatens her and her sons. Clint and Emma join forces to prevent the loss of either boy and the love they've discovered in each other's arms. Contains mature themes.… (plus d'informations)

FROM AMAZON: Emma Lewis has a lot on her plate. The single mother of two precocious twin boys and an aging mother who is having trouble getting through each day, the last thing Emma needs is a man in her life, especially a doctor. When the town’s doctor goes on vacation and his handsome nephew takes over, Emma is shocked to find him standing in her bedroom, accusing her of being a neglectful parent.

Clint Preston came to Westen for the year to fill in as the town doc while his uncle took a long-needed vacation. Clint also needed a sense of peace and calm to try to find his passion for medicine burned out by long shifts in an urban hospital’s ER. Angered to find two boys in his clinic with broken wrists and no accompanying parent, he is determined to confront their mother. The feisty redhead he meets quickly dispels his belief that she’s a neglectful mother, but he can see her situation is more critical than she wishes to face and finds himself volunteering to help care for her sons and the remodeling of her home.

As Emma and Clint forge a relationship among the slightly off-beat characters that inhabit Westen a menace from Emma’s past threatens her and her sons. Clint and Emma join forces to prevent the loss of either boy or the love they’ve discovered in each other’s’ arms.

It was cute. I adored the twins!! It would’ve been 4 Stars, but the evil deeds of the monster ex were just a bit too over the top and contrived. I mean first he marries her so she can support him through med school and his residency, only to cheat on her and then dump her for his rich mistress loaded with daddy’s money. Okay, I can buy that. He manages to get rid of her and both kids with no alimony or child support by paying an unscrupulous lab tech to falsify the DNA tests for paternity. A stretch. But then, he receives an inheritance contingent on his producing a male heir by roughly a month in the future, so he sues for custody of ONE of the twins, and to ensure he wins he takes out a contract hit on the ex wife and the other twin? Really? I mean, come on! Bit much, doncha think? His character is portrayed as this evil genius at manipulation basically, but then he gets caught because he’s basically an IDIOT! Doesn’t jibe.

The editing was fine. The characters were good. The MMC was dreamy, sweet and romancy perfection. The FMC was alternately strong and weepy...but, likable. The twins were hilarious and lovable. The whole town was packed with great characters actually. If the author hadn’t delved into the ridiculous with the evil ex, I’d’ve given it 4 Stars easy. ( )

Very sweet contemporary romance with the cutest "cant stay out of trouble" twins and a smidgen of suspense. The author also deals with the subject of a parent having Alzheimer's and I thought did a very good job of showing what it is like to live with someone with the disease.

Emma and Clint

Single mother raising twin boys, small town warmth, bad-guy dead-beat dad, new cute Doctor in town, mix together and end with HEA. ( )

've read The Edgars Family series by Ms. Ferrell and loved it, all the suspense, drama and romance roll into one. This is different, but in a good way. There's suspense, but not in the get in your face way. There's drama and issues to deal with, and issues that hit close to my own home in 'Close to Home'. There are two characters that deserve to find some peace and happiness, so there's some sizzle and romance. Then there are absolutely lovable, devious little characters that warm your heart, the twins.

This is the kind of book that makes you long for a small town community. The busy bodies that know everybody's business, but would give the shirt off their back to help out in a jam. Lessons are learned, the hard way, for Emma. It seems her past is haunting her and keeps her from moving on. Doc Preston is determined to help her any way he can, if she'll let him.

I'm looking forward to reading the next installment of this series. I know I won't be disappointed with the care that Suzanne Ferrell writes her books. ( )
