Urban Fantasy with a Cyberpunk Twist ***first episode of the nine-part serial*** What's your life worth on the open market? In this gritty urban fantasy, debt collectors take your life energy and give it to someone more "worthy"... all while paying the price with black marks on their souls. "Absolutely riveting!" "Quinn has a way of writing heart-breaking characters." "You'll be holding your breath, looking over your shoulder, and begging for more." Lirium plays the part of the grim reaper well, with his dark trenchcoat, jackboots, and the black marks on his soul that every debt collector carries. He's just in it for his cut, the ten percent of the life energy he collects before he transfers it on to the high potentials, the people who will make the world a better place with their brains, their work, and their lives. That hit of life energy, a bottle of vodka, and a visit from one of Madam Anastazja's sex workers keep him alive, stable, and mostly sane... until he collects again. But when his recovery ritual is disrupted by a sex worker who isn't what she seems, he has to choose between doing an illegal hit for a girl whose story has more holes than his soul or facing the bottle alone-a dark pit he's not sure he'll be able to climb out of again. Contains mature content and themes. OPTIONED FOR VIRTUAL REALITY BY IMMERSIVE ENTERTAINMENT 2014 Semi-Finalist in Science Fiction in the Kindle Book Awards Delirium is approximately 12,000 words or 48 pages, and is the first of nine episodes in the first season of The Debt Collector serial. A fine bit of reading! And a very interesting idea- these "collectors". Definitely leaves you wanting more. ( )

Wow. That was awesome. I've never read a novel serial before. It's the perfect mix of suspense, action an intrigue. I'm looking forward to reading the next episode. ( )

I'm fascinated with the idea behind this. Your lifeforce has a certain worth on the open market. If you're dying and don't have long to live, and you're in debt, your lifeforce will be taken as payment, then given to someone with more to contribute to society. Lirium is a debt collector, the person who takes that lifeforce from you and gives it to someone else. Debt collectors get to keep 10% of what they collect as payment. Siphoning lifeforce like that is a rush, and giving it away is equally draining, so Lirium has a ritual to help him deal. Only this time someone interrupts the ritual and Lirium gets caught in a trap he might not be able to get out of because it turns out the rush from freely--and illegally--giving away energy to cure someone is more than he ever expected. I want to learn more about this world and see what Lirium does now that things have changed.

The thing that puts me off is the pricing. It's $0.99/episode for 8 eps (first is free), so $8.00. Or you can wait and get the whole book for $4.99 (an okay price for an ebook, imo). But an Amazon.com serial with 12 episodes will cost you $2.99 for the whole deal. The whole book is available now, and since I found this episode interesting I'll likely pick it up. But I won't be paying $0.99/episode; that's a price point that just won't work with me. ( )

Delirium, Debt Collector 1 by Susan Kaye Quinn is a captivating short story.

Going into debt puts more than your credit rating in risk. I gave it five stars.

Lirium is an intriguing character. I want to know more about him. I

received a complimentary copy from Amazon. That did not change my opinion for this review. ( )

The Grim Reaper with benefits. This version of the grim is not a romantic lost soul he is an addict. He gets a charge off every life he ends and it is euphoria for him, not so much for the other guy. He works for controlling people who sell his collections
to prominent clients and give him a small tip/hit for his service. After a good hit he likes to celebrate with a little hide the sausage in one of the prostitutes that specialize in his kind. It's all going as planned till his girl on the pay check is not after his payment but needs him to help another. This change upsets his balance and has him stumbling to understand what he is and why he is.
I was not expecting to like this much I went in with negative expectations. First it's a serial which haven't sold me till now. Second, well the blurb sounded good but I've been disappointed a lot. Ha ! I loved it. Wow, it was edge of the seat, mind twisting, sci-fi, urban fantasy, and horror dark fun. The grim was not at all like I expected, and I loved reading him. His world was do far off from what everyone else writes and it worked, oh it sure
did. I'm hooked. ( )
