Many children have a blanket or stuffed animal that they must always have with them. Helping children understand that this is acceptable and is alright allows for children to feel comfortable if they must have an item of comfort with them at all times.

This would be a fun read aloud for K-2nd grade. With younger readers you might have to explain some of the concepts and/or the humor, but it would be worth the effort.

This is a great example of both introspection on the part of the character and irony for the reader, and that poor cat.
