My 16 month old daughter loved Wee Rhymes. It is comparable to Old Mother Goose and I would say it is a modern classic. The poems apply to everyday life and would be easy to memorize for a kindergarten or preschool teacher to recite. The poems contained words that would be familiar to most infants and they can help young children better understand those little annoyances that cause tantrums. The rhyming words kept my daughter engaged and are easily paired with fun hand gestures. There are even some Mother Goose Rhymes included in the book. The pictures are also colorful and easy to interpret for young children. Definitely worth adding to your library. ( )

Wee Rhymes is a great book for parents to read with their younger children. This book even has some Mother Goose rhymes in it such as the Roses are Red poem. The poems that you see throughout this book are perfect for day to day activities. There are poems about picnics, playgrounds, nap time, teddy bears, etc. It all appeals to a very young audience and although a younger audience might not be able to read the poems, parents can read it to them. The poems all have rhyme and a rhythm to it, making them very catchy. Children can use this book to learn how to read as well. In this book of nursery rhymes, it has drawings of all types of children which is good in today's society. In order for a child to be interested in a book, they need to see themselves in the book first and the illustrator touched on that really well.

I enjoyed reading this book for many different reasons. I liked the language because it as age appropriate for children. Each poem wasfun and catchy for young children. For example, “Do you love bananananananas whole? Do you love bananananas chopped? Cause when you try and say, “Bananananas,” You really don’t know when you’re s’posed to stop.” This was fun to say and children could easily read this poem. The illustrations were very well drawn. The illustrator used babies to illustrate the poems. For example, the illustrator drew babies on a page spinning around and tumbling. Children could see babies turning and spinning and understand the poem was about turning around. This poetry book was fresh and imaginative because children can use their imagination when reading the separate poems. The poems were also appropriate for the experiences because many children learn these poems as young children and then pass them down to their own children. Each poem had its own rhythm pattern which made the poems easy and fun to read. The message or big idea of this book was to introduce children their first poems.

I liked this book of poems for many reasons. First, each page has a different poem. All the poems rhyme and are catchy. The first poem is about a rose. There is an illustration to go along with the poem and the little boy is giving flowers to the girl. The illustration emphasizes the meaning of the poem. I also liked how each of the poems is short and has rhythm. This helps to keep your attention. One of the poems is, “coozies, cozies, feet and toesies, giggle, wiggle, up you go.” This isn’t long, so someone can easily learn how to repeat the poem and pick up on new patterns as well. Lastly, I liked how some of the poems a lesson. This allows readers/listeners to learn in a way that’s not so harsh. For example, one of the poems talks about when a child is bad they need to go to the quiet chair and sit until they’re ready to behave. Overall, I enjoyed reading this book of poems. ( )
