I've no idea whether the turns of phrase are from regular Wyoming folk or were invented by the author, but I loved them - "tall enough to hunt geese with a rake", "as useful as a steering wheel on a mule" were two that stuck in my mind. There was an element of the paranormal in Gwen's premonitions of deaths which seemed inappropriate to me, as though it didn't quite fit in a tale that is otherwise firmly rooted in solid Wyoming soil.
