"The Woman in the Moon" is based on a Chippewa story and occurs near Lake Superior. A beautiful and proud Indian maid named Lone Bird is an only child with a heart "like winter's ice." She refuses marriage with any young men (braves), but as the seasons pass, Lone Bird feels sad and realizes that she will be alone when her parents are gone. "What will become of me when they are gone?" she thought. She observes that even animals in the natural world all have mates, and feels even more lonely. However, she is still glad that she has not wed, and feels no love in her heart for men. She gazes up longingly at the bright shining moon in the sky and wishes for its love. The Good Spirit carries her up to the moon. Later, her parents look for her in despair, then realize that she is content, smiling down on the Earth, held content in the moon's pale embrace. The focus of the story relates to topics of love and transformation and contains themes of loneliness and longing for connection. aucune critique | ajouter une critique
