Summary:
Anna and her family take a day off from school, job, and household work to pick apples for a days work. Since she is a year older from last year her goal is to fill her bin up with apples for her purple ticket to get punched with a half moon. She tells in detail her story how how to pick apples and how her day goes on in a days hard work picking apples.

My Response:
I really liked the pictures and how it came from a little girl's point of view how she seen the day with family and apple picking thru her eyes. It gives a good example of goal setting and determination to reaching it. I would however thought the author should've explained why they like to pick apples.

Classroom Extension:
1)Ask students what goals they may have for the day, week, or future.
2)How would they reach that goal. ( )

Summary:
A girl goes to work with her parents dring apple picking time on an orchard. By the pictures you. An see that it is during a time that is not our own and a culture that is not our own. At the end of the day the girl gets her purple ticket stamped because she fills her barrel.

Personal reaction:
I liked the graphics of the book. Good use of color. The story was a little weird for me. I think it should have been explained as to why they were all picking apples. The goal for the girl was to get a punch and she succeeded which is good for kids to see.

Classroom extension:
1. Have kids talk about what job they would lIke to do.
2. Have kids talk about the goals they have and why. ( )

This book is about a girl that goes apple picking with her family. This is a family tradition in her family and in the book each member of the family has thier own little role. The The book also shows some family values and how family works together and how family traditions are started. Also the drawings in this book are very comforting. They are very earth warmy colors that really bring you into the story and make you start thinking about Fall. A class room activity that a teacher could do using this book is have the children think of a family tradition that they do in their family. Also he/she could ask the students if they have ever gone apple picking. ( )
