This is perfect for children in early grade school. ( ) This biography on Dr. Suess is very simple and aimed at young audiences. It contains real life photographs of Dr. Suess which could be intriguing to young readers. Another aspect that appeals to young readers is some of the text features. Important words are bolded, or underlined to highlight importance. Another neat part of the book is that it contains a multitude of photos depicting famous, recognizable figure reading Dr. Suess. The main idea of this book is the life of Dr. Seuss. He is one of my favorite authors of all time. I liked the way the book was set up. Each page was created as a question at the top and the response at the bottom. For example, “Who was Dr. Seuss? Dr. Seuss was a writer. He wrote and illustrated stories for children” (p. 4). The set up allows the main idea of each page to be noted before reading the information. It is easier to retain information when you know exactly what it is referring to. I also like the use of pictures and his personal illustrations used in the book. On page 18, we see his sculptures that are exactly the same style as his hand drawn cartoons. On page 19, we see the Grinch and his dog, max, stealing Christmas. His books have greatly impacted the world of young and older readers. The book has bolded terms that beginning readers can look up in the glossary to understand. For example, “Publish make into a book and have the book printed” (p.23). This is a great tool to develop vocabulary. I enjoyed learning about Dr. Seuss and his fantastic journey as an author and illustrator. aucune critique | ajouter une critique
